I would like to know what happened next...
I purchased an used black logo fob from the ad on ebay. I programmed the immobilizer part to recognize the fob and start the car with no issues using the “door open” method.
Now, I have Techstream and when I wanted to use wireless transpoder function just to add the additional one the instructions say that you should press lock and unlock buttons together for one second and then in the next 3 seconds any of the two buttons. This didn’t work at all! I think I tried so many times that my new fob battery died.
Replaced the battery and now when I press any button the red fob led blinks like 15 times. Found that strange, but will try again tomorrow.

I cannot try the chicken dance method bc my old fob is missing lock button entirely and I cannot click on lock and unlock in the same time, I guess this step cannot be skipped.

I think you have to unlock the programming procedure by pressing the lock/unlock on an already working fob. If you don't have that, then a seed reset is required.

You could purchase just a case and transfer the circuit board and transponder from the old fob. That should solve the bad lock key problem. Also check how many fobs are currently registered with Techstream. The limit is 5 on Gen2.

Thanks Rob, I actually did it this way. Using TechStream I logged connected to the Prius selecting “w/smart key” option (even though my car doesn’t have one), while there I had to delete all existing fobs from the memory by selecting Smart Key ECU > Utility. After I did this, none of the remotes were no longer registered, Techstream counted 0/5.
I reconnected Techstream to the vehicle again and this time selected “w/o smart key”. Selected Body > Wireless Remote ECU > Utility, where a registred my newly purchased remote by pressing lock and unlock buttons in the same time for one sec and then unlock button.
    That worked.

Weirdly, my new fob still blinks 10-15 times when any button is pressed and it ONLY locks the car. So I’m planning to troubleshoot this further.

On the old fob, the button is missing from the circuit, so transferring in a new case didn’t really help much. I didn’t try to register it like the new one yet, assuming that it’s dead. I’ll try this weekend and post my update.

You just may have made your problem harder for yourself. In any case, you will need the assistance of a dealer to reseed and add at least one key fob to your car, that is if you key fob is still in virgin state. After this, you can add further virgin key fobs using Techstream or the chicken dance.
