I'm looking for a drive way with access to electricity. Garage power is preferable to inside house power; however, I would certainly take what I could get. 8).

I can be there on weekends or week days. Just whatever space you have, I'll

I can bring cardboard, drop cloth, and I have a largish shallow "something"that I can use to place under my wheel as I work on it (no rust will hit your floors). I also have a small shop vac for any cleanup. I have all the tools that I need.

With that said, you should know that I'm often wrong but never in doubt about anything. So I might be missing something; I just f don't know it.

I know that I don't have Jack stands nor a floor jack, but those are nice-to-haves but not required.

What I would need from you is a date, time , and address so I can show up and start working. I would need access to power in order to plug in an extension cord.

    Thank you all in advance.

It might help if we knew what area you were looking in. I'm sure you're not going to drive across the country just to work on your Prius.

Also, an interesting experiment would be using a storage unit with enough space for the car and power. I presume some storage units may have power...? I've never used one, so I've never looked in great detail.

What kind of work do you want to do on your car?

You might try @Rebound in Fremont and see what he is up to:).

We’ve done a couple of meetups at his place there;).

    Good garage and lift(y).

    You already asked friends/family/coworkers?

HomeDepot has a 2cycle gas generator for purchase $109. You'll have on demand portable power at your convenience, now.
Home Depot has a 4cycle gas generator for rent. $44 for 4-hours, $63 for 24-hours.

    Consider:
    • commercial zoned area street parking
    • commercial shopping center (say a big parking lot of Home Depot, Walmart, etc)
    • residential area that doesn't have parking enforcement due to: time limit, parking permit requirement, or a street sweeping day.

Exactly! All I know is 53 and US. Not a lot to go on. What you want to do might be helpful also. People might be ok with a brake pad change but not an engine swap. Are you going to pay for this use? How much?

No rust will hit your floors is more of an east coast thing. Not a lot of rust under the cars around Fremont. ;)

Hrmn. I swear I had a paragraph saying that I live in Santa Clara, CA (San Fran Bay Area). And I'll be changing out a wheel bearing. All my tools are electric except for the ones that are 100% manual.

    Thanks in advance.

I've thought about both an air pump and generator. Santa Clara and most cities I've lived in have an ordinance about working on cars in the street.

Have you ever changed a wheel bearing in a Prius. The bearing is usually seized to the knuckle. I took mine to an automotive machine shop with a ew bearing and had them swap them out. I don't have a press.

I wonder how much a used knuckle is? Seems like the fastest way would be to get a used one, replace the bearing then just swap it out.

It's really not a big deal if you take it to a shop that has a press. I think they charged $25 for labor.

True, but time is also a factor. If you have another knuckle already ready to go it makes the job a lot quicker. My neighbor has a press so it’s not a problem for me. ;)
