That's right, boys and girls, I just finished a 62.1 MPG tank: a personal best!!
    640.0 miles even.

This refill actually took place a few days ago but I didn't want to post anything here until I could get my spreadsheet and chart updated. Check my sig.

    Pusle early.
    Glide often.

    Drive hybrid.
    Drive happy.

    Drives great.
    Less filling.

Disclaimer, the names in the following story have been changed to protect the guilty:
It would appear that the owner of a paricular hybrid vehicle, we'll call him Sony, might have been at fault for the dip in mileage during the early stages of that tank. It seems that once Mr. Staver was aware of his errors, the remaining duration of the tank saw an increase in overall average mileage.
Mind you, we're not drawing conclusions here nor are we placing blame.
So we will continue the hunt for the Weapons of Mileage Destruction (WMDs) ;)

Nice tank Tony. The irony of those high mpg tanks is that the higher your mileage, the further and longer you drive on that tank and thus the more opportunities that arise for some situation that'll trash the tank (ie necessary interstate driving or really terrible city traffic on a very hot day, etc).

Can't tell you how many times I've been on track for a 'record' or near record tank and some situation came up that trashed the possibility.

Let's see; drive 180 miles roundtrip to a hybrid meet and drop a 72.2MPG tank to 58MPG, rained this morning dropping my climbing 62MPG tank back to 59.5MPG and then I see this.

    GREAT JOB Tony :D :D :D :D !

Now keep those tires pumped up and see what happens next to your pulse and glide (sigh, someone please give me a decent 4 lane in the city to P&G).

    Wayne

Hey, wait! Why didn't you try for the 700 miles? You weren't running low on gas were you. :)

Exactly. I've gotten excited thinking that I was headed toward a mid-50's tank and driving conditions caused it to slip through my fingers.

I was not running low on gas and the last bip wasn't blinking yet. Technically, I had last refilled with 10.78 gallons so I KNEW I had 669 potential miles with a safety of probably more than the 30 needed to exceed 700. Just chose not to push my luck. Evan's right: every day you drive on it, the higher the probability that something will happen to wreck it.

Take solice in the fact that when you wrecked your mileage driving to and from the Milwaukee Hybrid Group, you were doing so in order to help more than twenty other hybrid drivers improve their own mileage. So technically, you made a personal sacrifice of a few MPGs and in return the world will receive several thousand cumulative MPGs.

Ohboy ...do I suspect I will see this....

    Great tank, Tony!!!

I'm from Chicago area originally...born and raised (sounds like corn) in Evanston.

Flatter than my northern shore of Long Island....I'm happy with hitting 45 mpg...average 41 mpg on my second tank...for my minimalist driving.

I am pulsing earlier now....trying to get into glide as much as possible....I do pick up some of what I use climbing on some long downhill coasts...

Go To-ny, go To-ny, go To-ny!! That's awesome! Who's taking the credit for it, you or Priapus?? Or both? :)

I'm jealous. I'll be happy with a 50+mpg tank. After a slew of mid-40's tanks it looks like I'm en route to a 50 or 51mpg tank again, finally.

so... does an extended period of high mpg constitute priapism?
