    Hey Prius Chat Peeps -

I recently bought a Toyota Prius 2010 IV with JBL sound system and voice command (Non Nav). I liked it a lot however I liked the Prius that have the stock OEM nav screen better.

Now I know that the actual nav on it is kinda worthless and your Google Maps on your smartphone is a hell of a lot better. But I wanted the look of it and the bluetooth streaming.

Now I also know that you can simply by a bluetooth streaming dongle that plugs into in your aux port but I also wanted bluetooth info showing up on a screen.

I also liked the idea of a backup camera (which my current Prius doesn't have - since... no nav screen).

So my goal was to install a JBL nav upgrade to my Prius IV with JBL sound system and voice command.

Here is my process and parts so far.
    1. The JBL Nav Unit ($600-$900 on eBay)
This unit can be bought via eBay for $725. It's a easy install and uses the mounting brackets. The wiring harness (cables that plug into the back) is slightly different and have a couple of questions for you guys down below.

    2. The USB/AUX Connector Kit ($130-$160 on eBay - OPTIONAL)This connector kit replaces your old simple AUX connector in your center arm-rest console. It also has a different junction box that has to be installed under the arm-rest console. This kit enables you to control your iPhone (in my case) from the nav unit itself through the USB connection. But this isn't very good manager of music as the scrolling process kinda sucks. I went ahead and bought the kit anyway for shits and giggles.

    3. The Backup Camera Aftermarket - non OEM ($20 on ebay)
I bought a camera from ebay. From china but seems to be a good build with built in LEDs for extra light at night. I bought this becuase I had no luck finding the wiring harness from the OEM camera to the stock nav radio.

    4. Aftermarket adapter for head unit to connect adapter ($65.00)You will need this so you can use a non OEM camera.
    5. Nav Disc for the NAV unit ($150-200 on eBay)
Without this your Nav unit won't do anything since there isn't any internal memory and it dependent completely on the disc.
In theory that is all the parts you'll need ASSUMING you already have the JBL system installed. If you don't then you have a whole other mess on your hands and this upgrade seems way unreasonable. Since you'll have to buy the speakers, amp, and wiring harnesses for the JBL system which is super costly and honestly I've had both setups (JBL and non-JBL) and they are only a little better. PLUS the nav unit (I beleive) requires that you have a JBL system... I could be wrong.

SO THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP!

For the life of me I am having trouble getting the plug (which went to the satellite from the old head unit) to work with the NAV unit. The size of the blue plug doesn't seem to match up with the blue female receiver on the NAV unit like it did on the non-nav JBL unit. Sooo... is there another wiring harness that I need or a special adaptor for conversion?

Also... my voice command features on my steering wheel are not working either. Any ideas there?

    Thanks guys in advance!

    Ron

I should also note that (next song / prev song buttons) on steering wheel works just fine... just not the voice command... and there is not phone book option on the Nav unit... I thought there was?

any solution so far for the above problem?
i've done the same step up and having same problems. I've added OEM navigation everythig work but my Bluetooth phone and my voice command features on my steering wheel are not working, however, all other buttons work just fine, even bluetooth Audio works.

Did you see from your research that the 2010 JBL nav system has the XM tuner as a separate box mounted under the driver's seat? An antenna cable extension runs down to it from the antenna cable end that you have, and high-speed AVC-LAN connects it back to the head unit.

I didn't see the XM tuner listed in your bill of materials.

if you notice the phone icon is missing from the Nav head unit as it doesn't recognize it, the Bluetooth audio works but not the phone. and also the command button on the steering doesnt work either. the only plug that i didnt plug in is the blue one which I thought it's for XM antenna but again i don't think I have XM, so could it be the problem?

I'm sorry, you know what, I think I was responding to the original post (not noticing it was four years old) , and not to your different issue. I'm not sure what to say there; I think the bluetooth should Just Work.

I think it has to recognize that the microphone is connected. Have you checked that out through the diagnostic menu?

    HI Samtheman,
this is exactly what I am trying to do. I have the same stock crap base head unit as you. So, it looks like you just plugged all the existing connectors from the old unit into available spots on the nav unit, but it looks like there was nothing to plug in the 28 pin on the new Nav unit. I am wondering if this is the issue and some of the steering wheel controls are probably part of the 28 pin functionality. Were you ever able to get the phone and steering wheel controls working and how did you accomplish this? Did you add a GPS antenna in order to get the GPS working? What else was not working when you plugged the wires initially? Also, did you ever install a camera and where did you plug it in?

As long as you get the JBL amp also (goes under the passenger seat), refer to the wiring diagram and run the right wires to it, and from it to the speakers ... it'd be a bit of a project.

The headunit for the JBL system does not contain an amp, because it's intended to work with the JBL amp under the passenger seat. So if you don't also provide the amp, you won't hear much.
