    Is LA a USA state?

Mine is AU$746 - which is substantially dearer than any previous car.

I'm in the UK, but my insurance is £196/yr, so not bad at all! (about US$260? AU$360?)

Ours is $580 after I lowered the deductible on the comprehensive coverage because of windshield cracking. (That's per year.)

Insurance premiums are so variable not only by car models, but also by locations, drivers age, sex, past claim history etc, etc. My premium on my 2017 PRIME Premium with no deductible collision/comprehensive went down to ~$400/year (for full coverage PRIME only) from ~$1200/year (for full coverage on PRIME and another old car with liability only) when I dropped an older car my son was driving.

About $1200 CDN yearly, for pleasure-only driving (no daily commute, business use), $500 collision deductable, $300 comprehensive (hit-and-run, vandalism, that sort of thing), and minimum third-party liability, I think $200,000?

Yes, so variable. But mine is about the cheapest it will be - 42 years since last accident, 65yrs old, no traffic fines since 1973 - but still PRIUS is about double what my FIESTA was. Or a Corolla.

My current auto insurance premium is the lowest I have ever had in my life. This is the first time since I got married that I have ONLY one car to insure. Yeah, car model counts, but having kid(s) on your insurance is the biggest surcharge.

LA can be one of at least three things in this context. First "LA" is indeed the US Postal code for the state of Louisana. Second, of course, it's the well-known moniker for Los Angeles. Third, and much, much more obscure, it's the insider's tag for my part (the extreme western portion) of Florida, standing for "Lower Alabama." ;) This name is driven by the fact that our part of the state bears virtually zero resemblance to the "main" part of Florida, physically, culturally, pretty much every way you can think of. Heck, we're even two hours (driving) deep into the central time zone here. It's that far from the rest of eastern-time Florida.

As for the actual topic, alas, it's not a particularly telling question. First, the rates on a near-identical policy can, and often do, vary wildly from state to state, or even various locations within one state. Then, of course, most states allow extreme ranges of variability in the levels of coverage purchased (from going nearly "naked," to being grossly over-insured). Finally, there are many variations from state to state on how auto insurance works fundamentally, e.g. fault vs no-fault and so on. This is, perhaps one of the very best possible, examples of the concept of "apples vs oranges." Still an interesting question, though.

When I lived in the Bay Area (Silicon Valley) where there are 8 million people, my insurance was half what it is now where I live. I live in a very rural part of California. It turns out there are more accidents per capita where I live with the highest uninsured driver rate in the state. It's really hard for me to believe since more than half the time when I drive "into town" I follow no one nor does anyone follow me. No one on the road.

There are usually a number of different ways of calculating what insurance rates will be in a given location. The insurer will always choose the one that results in the highest profits for the company -- surprise, surprise. . . But don't worry, you're in good hands!

I certainly don't know the California insurance market, but I'd recommend doing some careful shopping. A lot of times the company that had a great rate in one's old location will be a total rip-off in a new one. Prices may even be structured this way, as the company takes advantage of a customer's "loyalty" (or unwillingness to get into the mud and do some shopping...).

Of course, the concept of loyalty to an insurance company is one of the most oxymoronic and misguided under the sun. They, of course, have zero loyalty toward us. They will put a dagger in your back the very same nanosecond they decide it's best for them to do so. . . Good neighbors indeed.

I'm jealous honestly lol... mine is $296 a month for full coverage and, liability on my 2000 metro 2016 prius 4 touring full coverage $500/$500, no roadside or life. I do have an accident and speeding ticket both may 2016 so their bout to fall off.. I just paid 3 months for $833 which made it like 277 or something a month after they fall off itll be around 2000 a year or so from everywhere I've been quoted

Mine was pretty decent, went from a 13 yr old car with same coverage to brand new and the cost to ensure went from $900 to $1050 a year, but I also reported the correct driving distance I was going 17500k per year, since I had a brand new car now. No accidents ever or tickets within the past several years. This is in Florida
