The Bosch battery is still on sale at Pep Boys for $143, free installation, but also very easy to do yourself.

If you mean the jump terminal in the fuse box and a ground point in the engine bay, yes. Not the battery terminals, cables in the back.

To save memories when swapping batteries: I lay my jump pack in the driver's foot well, and run a memory saver cable from it to the OBDII port:

Works a charm, but a little late in the day for something like that I guess. If you've got something like a small trickle charger, hooking it up at the underhood jump point will do the trick too.

Still, this all seems like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic: it's very likely the inverter is toast? If you're getting that replaced, I would just get them to do the 12 volt battery replacement at the same time. They're likely going to need the car to be completely dead (12 volt disconnected, no memory saver), in the course of inverter swap.

BTW, you say the 12 volt battery's reading "12 volt". Is this with a digital meter? Can you post to the reading to one decimal place, ie: 12.4, 12.6, 12.8?

So we put it on a flatbed and took it to the dealer. They replaced the inverter... it was covered under the Enhanced Warranty Toyota sent us out of the blue about 9 months ago.
Seems fine but a couple of times now my wife could not start the car at first. No codes... the power locks didn't work either...
Today I replaced the 12v battery... just to be safe. Is it possible to have intermittent problems with the 12 .

If your key fob batteries are 2 years old or more, change the batteries in both fobs. CR1632 large button cells, see if you can find a 2-pack, it's cheaper than buying 2 individually.

FYI, if it is weak or dead key fob batteries, you can still get in the car with the mechanical key in the key fob. Then hold your fob up against the Start button after stepping on the brake pedal and press Start when the LED turns green.
