We're not going to be having that issue down here in Vero tonight (typed as AC is chugging away trying to keep up)!;)

That could be more a tire comparison (different selection and wear) than anything else.

If that's the case, then it says a lot about the oem tires on the Prius as that's what's on it. As far as the truck, granted they are not snow tires but are all-terrain tires with little wear.

Past year Prii came with at least three different OEM tire models, seemingly by lottery. Many of them have not been very good on snow or ice, but some might be good.

Do those truck tires have a snow or winter rating? Based on tractor experience, I can't just assume that all-terrain is also good in winter, after seeing how poorly one of dad's tractors performs in hard snow and ice.

I'll have to check to see if I can find a winter rating on the truck tires, but in any case I'm still happy with the Prius and its tires.

I'm increasingly convinced, that there's an inverse relation, between winter conditions and snow tire adoption, lol.

Well, you have to realize around here at least that the road crews use so much salt that usually the only place you might have trouble with traction is your driveway and then to a lesser extent the side roads. Now years ago before front wheel drive cars, it was a different story and most people did faithfully change to snow tires every winter.

Very little salt used here. Sometimes when the conditions are extreme.
    Studded tyres and let's go!
