Where are you from and where do you live now?

    Born Chicago suburburbs (Naperville hospital, lived in Downer's Grove

    Age 4 moved to Batesville, IN (SE area about an hour from Cinncinati, famous for the Hildebrand casket company)

    Age 10 move to Mountain Home, Ark. area (Northwest part of the state just south of MO. line)

    Age 18 move to Fayetteville, AR for college

    Age 22 move to Little Rock, AR for Med. School

    Age 26 move to New Orleans, LA for Residency

    Age 30 move to Palmer, AK (50mi North of Anchorage) for living life to the fullest

    Age 33 (to present)move to Springfield, MO area...live intervened and my kids needed to be closer to family....and here I stay for the forseeable future.

    Grew up (figuretivly speaking :D ) on a farm near Blakeley, MN (pop. 98). Now live in Belle Plaine, MN wich is about 7 miles from Blakeley. This is just north of where the tornados hit last night.

    Wife, on the other hand, born in Manila, Philippines, grew up on Leyte, Philippines, then to Marakina (Manila suburb). Then came to Washington DC, that's where we met :) , and then to Belle Plaine where we lived for the past 20 years.

    Well, we're 39 posts into this thread, and the premise isn't really holding true.

    Of the 36 posters that indicated their country of birth, only 2 weren't the USA (just over 5%).

    34 posters reported being born in the USA, yet only one indicated that they currently live (or had ever lived) in another country.

    9 of them (26%) indicated that they still live in the state in which they were born.

    Of the 25 that moved from their birth state, 7 moved only one state away (i.e. across the state line to the neighboring state).

    Appoximately half of the respondents born in the US still live within one day's driving distance of their birthplace.

    That's not really very mobile.
