HOW to make Toyota-EV-Charging-Cable anti-theft.. You need a drill with a 5/16 drill bit. make the hole bigger than the one that it came in new one.The buy a lock that is for a Trailer like you with lock on the tongue i added photos of it. Make sure you do not drill too close to the edge of the button or trigger of the charge cable end. easy fix. the may only cost $300.00 new but still you will have to replace them. I hope this help others. i have a New 2019 Prius prime pug -in basic. the app doesn't cover my model so this is a way you can rest assure. I still need a Fast charge adapter to use at Tesla and other charging stations. when i travel that way it might be easier to find a charging stations around the country ( USA/ Canada).

It is a Easy fix if you drill it right. i still want a second for home use only. and or an adapter for Non Prius charging stations Nation-wide. and Keep the one i made in the car so no-one can steal it when i am away from home. the Level 2 home charging stations are soooo much money. i want one but at $400.00m to $600+ i do not thinks so for now.

Looks good. Do you often charge your car in open public?

Me no not often but there is a phone app Plug share . the can tell you where to go. Make you you tell the app you have a Prius because some are not set up for the Prius. A Prius prime advanced has a app etune that has Plug is locations on it. I have a 2019 Prius Prime base (plug-in ) so don't work with my model.

Does the newer model not have a lock on for the charger? My 2017 advanced has the option to lock the connector on. You have to hit the button to unlock it so you can unplug. May just be an advanced thing I’m guessing.

No lock .. you need a drill and pad-lock.. I think Toyota need a key lock made into the charge cable. .. but sadly not i have a 2019 brand new only one month old.

Why don’t simply use the button inside charge port? Then you can only release the cable with key present.

Because, people can and will steal you charging cable. then sell it or pawn it. You need to lock it up so they can't. Toyota doesn't have a way to lock it up on the charging cable. When i was buying my 2019 the Toyota sales person told me that if you do not lock it criminals would do this. the whole on the Charging cable is too small so you must drill it bigger then you can get a better lock that is harder for them to use a bolt cutters. If you are traveling some Motel/hotels allow you to charge you car.so to not lose your charger cable you lock it. unless you are at a public charging station that they can't steal.

You can't lock it if you do not have a hole big enough. people will steal Your charging cable then re-sell it. in other words you need a bigger hole for a bigger lock. this doesn't count for public charging stations where you use their charge cable. you can call it a public "electric" gas pump.

Have you tried the button inside charge port? Once you press it your cable locked. you cannot press where you locked with your physical locker to release the cable unless you have the key and you press that button.

    Just try it, it works.

Just so you know the is NO button to pull to lock the Charging Cable on a 2019 Prius Prime .. You need to make what i did. or buy a small Pad-lock < that would be easy to cut with simple Bolt cutters. No button on my Prius. ...

When you charge the car, press the button, then the charging cable would be locked untill you have the key and you press the button again.

From the 2019 Prius Prime owners manual which looks just like my 2017:

    Screen Shot 2019-03-21 at 12.48.31 PM.png

It can also be set to lock automatically and unlock with the button or to be auto lock and unlock.

Based on these pictures, I'm gonna say this locking button has been DELETED from the 2019 Prime. Maybe someone can verify this one way or another.

Look closely at the OP's original pic, the area where the button should be looks completely flat, then look at my "Rob43" pic where the button is absolutely sticking up & out.

On a side note, I personally would Much Rather use a "Pad Lock" on my charger if I felt like I needed too. This is because when a potential bad guy rolls up to screw with the blue handle, a shiny pad lock is an absolute deterrent to anyone.

plus trim does not have button and locking ability. premium and advance have it.
padlock is still a good idea so some clown doesnt spend 10 minutes trying to twist the evse off the the car.
