This is incorrect. Anytime the car is in ready mode, the 12v battery is getting 13+ volts from the hybrid system through a dc-dc converter.

You should be fine with your setup. Sounds like the dealer treated you right. If you were happy with them post their name if you recommend them.

It seems most dealers we hear about here are just ripping people off. I don't go to the dealer often but have never had a bad experience.

Before I actually pay for a 'new' battery, I call them up the day before pick up to have battery charge to 12.7v. When I'm there for pick up I have them measure it in front of me again at the register then I'll buy.

Yeah sounds good. 1.25 amp will be a little slow, but meh.

this is only while the car is 'ready'.
when it is off and sitting, there is a constant drain on the 12v. the longer it sits, the lower it gets. the hv battery is totally isolated for safety reasons with the car off.

Yeah, it's like the car constantly has a teeny-tiny door ajar. It's always draining around 15~20 milliamps, to retain memories mostly I guess.

Toyota of Ridgecrest has always been very fair and honest about service. You have to be on your toes when purchasing a vehicle from them but the service is great.
The dash panel has an alarm symbol that continues to flash constantly when the car is off so that's one of the draw's on the 12 volt.

The charger showed full charge this morning so I removed the charger and will put it back in a couple of days before I have to use it again.
Whenever I drive the car and put the charger on it, it takes awhile for the 12 v to get back to full charge so I wonder if maybe the system isn't up to keeping it at full charge while driving?

the system is designed to maintain whatever charge the battery is at. it is not very good at actually charging the battery, but will do so over a ing period of time.

it is not unusual while driving for the 12v to drop a bit from where your maintainer brought it up to, but it shouldn't drop much.

pick up a cheap volt meter and do some testing at the jump terminal under the hood. it's fun and easy.

Whenever I hook up my charger, it's at least 3~4 hours before it goes to green light (done).

    Something like this:

The price varies, I got it for around $85 CDN I think? They have a new line now I see.

Don't forget the smart key system is a constant battery drain unless put on vacation mode.

2016 Prius Charging system.jpg His car needs to be tested for parasitic draw. Rule of thumb anything over 50 milliamps is bad.

Once the battery is confirmed good and the charging system is confirmed functioning properly a parasitic draw test needs to be done.

Here are the charging specifications for my 2016 Prius, his should be similar.

Vacation Mode? Never heard of that. So how do you set that and what happens when you do? Thanks

Vacation mode is when we attach the dolly to the coach and strap the Prius onto the dolly. ;)
