Maybe I should work for FEMA, but 5-7 days out before landfall seems a pretty long time before predicting where it will hit...

Well, mother nature gave us a spanking last year, but I don't think we got the message. What happened to our "great" and "powerful" country that left that place STILL in ruins? Oh yeah, it's a lot of poor black people who lived down there, I remember now.

I just watched the new Spike Lee documnetary and it made me really sad, but it was also really inspiring. See it if you get a chance.

Lots of poor-upper middle class white people there still, as well. My g-ma is in ICU at a hospital just outside of NOLA, across the lake if you will. We're trying to figure out what we'll do with her should Ernesto hit LA. My other family members will be coming here, I'm sure. Then again, if it turns more and heads for Texas we'll be going to LA.

I do want to see that Spike Lee doc. I'm sure it will make me cry...
I'll have to look for it.

FEMA should dump out a pile of cash to the north. That would bring the people out of the city and out of the way of the storm before it gets there this time.

Since they won't do that, I'm betting on people being too dumb to leave AGAIN...

If it goes under water again this week, do we pump it back out and keep rebuilding?

    How many times?

mmm... That's not giving the people of New Orleans very much credit. If you lived there all your life, and your family for generations before, I don't think you'd be so eager to abandon the place. Not only that, but if you had no money and no prospect for a place to go, it might seem equally scarey to leave as to wait out the storm and pray for the best.

The Dutch have done a fine job keeping water out of their basements. Their levees put ours to shame. Considering the cahsflow from the region's oil platforms, some serious money should be going into restoring wetlands and the city, but because the platforms are a few miles off shore, LA doesn't get their share and the money goes to the fed.

Also, considering the bangup job FEMA did the last go 'round, I don't think anyone in the country would trust anything they do, even a big pile of cash.

The forecast track has changed these last 24 hours. Now more like straight up FL, not towards LA. The model forecast tracks are updated frequently at

    http://wind.mit.edu/~emanuel/storm.html

Whether you find the models reliable is up to you. The NHC, as usual, is lagging behind in their interpretation of model track changes, but I do not judge their decisions.

I just got the call to leave at noon Monday with the Red Cross vehicle headed towards Florida (Red Cross vehicles don't get the mileage that my Prius does). Next three weeks should be interesting. :)

    Oh boy more O/T....! :) ;)

I can think of other ways to earn O/T though...

At least I got my new metal roof, If the say evacuate My family will but I will have to stay and protect and serve.

I Can think it would be nice for the storm avoid New Orleans, but they may still get it.. I have family that has lived there for 40yrs, they have moved to Arkansas after katrina. they say the same thing rebuild in a higher location.. Denmark levies, hey thats it have the builders come over and give an estimate on building new levies.. gee what would that cost?

Hurricanes are a way of life if you live on the coasts, in the central states they have Tornados as a way of life. :(

I heard PC got hacked? Is that why I have red X's everywere and the avatars are missing?

Well each forcast has the storm vearing further and further to the east, so we may not get it as bad as we thought. :)

    Track predictions:

    1st. the gulf.

    2nd. naples/tampa to j-ville. :(

3rd. the keys straight up the state

4th. miami skating the coast line  :(

    5th. ??

Regretfully we need the rain, just not the damaging winds... :(
