Hello there, This is the second time my battery has malfunctioned and am at the point of wanting to sell this car. If there are any suggestions, please let me know - the money saved on gas is godsent. The replacement battery (brand new) was around $1,500 and now it's done - may need to get another one or use the warranty. The Red Triangle, Check Engine, VSC or ABS (forgot), Airbag, and tire pressure came on. Vent to the battery started to sound loud. This all occurred on my way home from work, no problem in the morning or days prior. Battery fluctuated from full to low to medium levels - showing 99mpg, 0, 4, etc... all while slightly accelerating. The car would refuse to accelerate, had to pull over and turn off the car for a good 20 minutes before struggling to get home. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am on the verge of selling this car Exact Signs when I was driving.
welcome! if you have a warranty, use it. when you run out of warranty, install a new battery for $1,600. from @2k1Toaster . then your problem will be over. otoh, you are driving a 12 year old car with how many miles? other expensive systems are likely to fail at some point.
You say you got a *brand new* replacement battery for $1,500? I have never seen that low of a price for a new Toyota battery. I have seen *Used* batteries for that price. Where and when was the battery purchased? Did you install it yourself? Any idea of the warranty? If it was a New battery from Toyota, then they provide a 3 year warranty. Although I would guess it will normally last 8-10 years.
Welcome to PC. Sorry about the bad experience. I've never heard of a brand new battery for $1,500!! I suspect you have a rebuilt one. You don't say how old it is, but if it's more than two years, I think you beat the odds. As others said, whether it's new or rebuilt, if it's under warranty, use the warranty.
