So, I just got a PIP! Love it!

Picked it up on Long Beach from a wonderful 2nd owner. It's a 2015 base in Blizzard Pearl. Non-factory leather that seems quite a bit better than factory pleather. Got the 2015 because I plan on keeping the car until the doors fall off. 2014 had new pistons, and 2015 had new rings. Hopefully, this will resolve the known problem of high mileage Priuses burning oil.

Took her on a 3k journey home. She ran like a champ!

In my search, I had to look for a Prius NOT from a car dealer in CA. Apparently if you buy a car from a dealer in CA, they have to collect sales tax if you drive it off the lot. The only way around sales tax is if you put the car on a car transport and drop it off in another state. This made EVERY car in CA not competitive for purchase as I'm in Texas. . .and wanted to fit in a road trip as part of my Prius adventures. Sorry Sacramento, I don't see why I should have to pay your sales tax AND my sales tax for the privilege of driving the few hundred miles in your state. It would have been an extra $960 in taxes or $1100 in transport.

I noticed the interior cargo space for the Gen 3 is smaller than the Gen 2. Just added BeamTech LEDs - excellent upgrade. Still getting used to the plug-in. It's interesting.

EnTune doesn't like my phone, Pixel 2XL. I can use bluetooth, but it won't use my phone to gather data like gas prices or weather. Anyone have any suggestions? Carrier is T-mobile.

When you register the car in your name the DMV will ask you how much you paid and will collect the sales tax.

Yes, I understand. Since I'm paying the taxes in Texas where I am registering it at my domicile, I don't really feel like paying sales tax in CA for the privilege of driving a few hundred miles in CA before making home to Texas.

Not only the price that buyer told is the price that buyer to pay tax on. The seller also declares the sales deed to the DMV, on which the seller would declare the sale price. These two prices(seller mentioned on sale deed & buyer mentioned on the title registration form MUST match)

Congratulations. PiP is a great car.

I was under the impression that when you buy out of state you pay sales tax based on where you live. But it would not surprise me if CA was different in this regard.

Base. 74k miles. Paid $13,500 for her. Has aftermarket leather (probably installed by the dealer)

Yup. CA wants you to pay a sales tax if the car is purchased in CA. THEN, they'll give you temp tags to drive in CA before you go to your state and pay taxes again.
