After about a full year of hacking the hell out of my out-of-warranty 2012 Prius, I have finally been able to remote start it, with a full take over. It won't shut down on door open, and it won't shut down on brake press, and it allows me (and only me) to just get in a drive away.

It's NOT just a cheap hack either. It maintains full anti-theft security. The car CAN NOT be driven away after remote started unless you have the keyfob.

This invention of mine also supports:

    * remote stop
    * timeout stop if you forget you started it.
    * auto stop on alarm set off, if someone tries to steal the car while remote started.
    * prevents the new "RF-relay attack" car theft that is currently working against the factory keyfobs in homes.
    * additional car security if the alarm should get set off, disables ALL start attempts going forward.
    * allows all normal car functions
    * allows all normal remote start functions
    * no error codes on either device.

Its likely able to be adapted to other PTS cars with this shutdown issue
It's likely able to work with any aftermarket remote start car alarm. Currently, it only works with the one I have.

For now its still a prototype in my car, but working 100% reliable.

    My questions are:

    * Is there any interest in this, should I pursue a patent? Should I start a kick-starter?
    * Would Toyota try to stop me?
    * Am I missing something important?

For now, I'd rather not divulge any of the technical details of how I did this. It was VERY difficult, and I nearly nuked my ECU several times screwing around with it. It was also kinda pricy, as I had to try various approaches until I finally solved it with a reliable working safe, prototype. The end working result won't cost too much to build. Install is a bit more difficult than a typical remote start car alarm but doable.

Ideally, I'd like to licence or sell the patent, as manufacturing this is not something I can do in my spare time for the public unless this becomes my new full-time career.

Im working on the next revision of it for the Prius prime, with the goal of being able to SAFELY remote start a prime, with full take-over (no shutdown or restarts required) even whiles its plugged into active charge power. This is still a work in progress, but looking good so far.

    Comments? Concerns? Investors? Please reply.

You can youtube my name and see the old video from years ago about the door hack I did, but that hack won't allow a full take over because the car will still stop on brake press needed to put it in gear. It's better than nothing tho, and its my gift too you. This new one (not yet on youtube) does allow full take over and I might post up a video demo of it working, need to check with my attorney first about that as it may mess with my patentability of it.

My 12 Camry has the factory (P.O.S.) remote start. We never use it because of the door open issue and you have to get within 50 feet to activate it! I had crime stoppers on 5 other cars with great features and line of sight operation!
