has the owner site change; now when you remove a car you have to check a box that removes service history. that's not right.

or was it always like that. I don't remember.

AFAIK, it's always been like that. I've removed three. The last one was a few weeks ago and the first was late 2015. Did the same thing every time.

bought some rims that came from that a 2017, so I went on the site to see it's history(could not have been good if a junkyard ended up with it's rims[car]); - no history. so the owner of must have ~removed~ it from his/her 'garage'. which is not good; the site states that once a car is remove it history is also and can not be recovered. did you see that notice?

so if you buy a used prius and the last owner removes it - history is gone?!

I saw the notice. I think it just disappears since it's not in your garage anymore. If you re-registered it, the info should come back. I have not tested that theory, though. All the history is there from the PO's of my car and my wife's car. I have no idea if the POs removed them, though.

I don't know about the "remove" feature of the Toyota Owner site, but I have in the past looked at the service history of used Toyota vehicle that was for sale. You don't have to own the car to see those record, all you need is VIN number. I think the record stays in the system attached to the VIN just like Carfax record.

The info stays with the VIN. when I was researching cars this winter I was adding/removing them and adding them back as I waffled on which cars I was interested in. All the info came back when I added VINs back.

    thanks; solved. the end.

as I said in 1st post
(could not have been good if a junkyard ended up with it's rims[car])

could not have been a good history[if any].

    rim02.jpg rim01.jpg

one was from a 2017, one from a 2018, other two unknown.

look for next my question in gen4 forum - how to program TPMS for gen4 using techstream. from what I have read so far people get stuck in the process.

    but that is for gen4.

    this topic is ended.

The info won't be as complete as a carfax because your dealer's service department will need to input it and I've noticed it's hit or miss if they put something in. There's only 1 entry for the 2013 I traded in in January and that's from an oil change I had done in 2015 even though I bought it used so the original dealer probably didn't put anything into it and neither had the dealer I bought it from in 2014. (conversely the carfax has a bunch of entries from being put for sale new in 2013, being sold, traded in, sold again to me and registration renewals every year)

The 2016 I picked up this winter has more entries but didn't have anything from the dealer I purchased it from even though they had done a couple of recall repairs and replaced the windshield. They only added in their work to Toyota Owners after I emailed asking if they'd done the recalls and mentioned the owners site saying it had some open recalls still.
