If it's snow bird/tourist season, why can't we hunt them? :D

Oh, and I never outright specified, but it's all season tires I want. Not all my driving is in FL or in the summer.

Defenders are great but although the name has not changed, the hard to believe 90,000 rating is now a hard to believe 80,000. I only bought one as a spare for my new Prime- makes you wonder what else changed. Always COSTCO for me.

Costco only offers a few tires to non-members. Three different brands, Michelin being one of them. No price advantage that I saw vs the other places I've checked.

So I can get the all season Avid GTs with 4-1/2 stars on tire rack dot com that I can feel good about driving in northern winters on occasion. Or the much more expensive summer Michelin Energy saver with 3-1/2 stars. The all season tire I need is 2/3 the cost of the summer tire I don't want and it has higher ratings.

Well.... a person could become a member, get the tires, then quit a few weeks or months later (anytime before your renewal comes around) and get a full refund on the membership fees. I love Costco and am not suggesting you do that, just sayin'. Heck, you might just even like them enough to stay.

You guys must have read the poem in the latest Costco magazine where some guy took his mother to Costco for a gallon of milk. It ends with 2 carts full and counting . :D

Sitcom Costco is almost 20 miles away. Sam's Club is less than 2 miles away.

(Where the heck did "Sitcom" come from??!! That wasn't there when I posted it.)

That was CRAZY!! I do not have autocorrect on for that very reason. When I posted it, it said "Costco." I fixed it so I hope it stays fixed. ... And those two words aren't even anywhere near close to the same. o_O (It was from the iPad, btw. But no autocorrect.)

    Read the Costco magazine ?

The only reason I go there is to get the tires rotated which ultimately leads to lunch at their food court;).

The wife takes care of the rest(y).

I am on my 2nd set of Michelin Defenders. The first set lasted 6 years and 70,000 miles. I had plenty of tread left but the sidewalls of the tire were cracking where they met the rim. I kept the tires at 42 psi and 40 psi throughout their life. Max pressure is 44 psi so maybe that contributed to the cracking. Tire performance was excellent for me - good mpg- mileage- performance in all seasons. I went with new Michelin Defenders when I replaced them. They are currently performing great with 30,000 miles under their belt. I do have some tire/road noise but that is in a 10 year old 2nd generation Prius. Car averages between 45 and 50 mpg depending on the season of the year. I would probably be classified as a cautious driver and do pay attention to try and get the best mpg per tank without going overboard.

    Back to the evolving thoughts.

    Scheduled charging learning experience:
Last night, I decided I wanted to charge a little later this morning. I was pretty sure that what I was doing was changing the departure time for this morning's charge from 6 AM to 6:45 AM. I unplugged with a partial charge a little before 6 AM this morning. When I got to work and shut it off, I had a heck of a time making what turned out to be a temporary schedule event go away. There was no way to delete it, only to change it. And the 6 AM departure schedule was still there. The temporary one I made had grabbed the system and insisted on being next, even though, by that time, it was a week in the future.

FINALLY, I broke down and researched it in the manual. It took a while, because the terminology was a little unexpected and it was almost at the end of that section of the manual. I discovered that, to make a temporary charge schedule go away, you have to hit "Charge now." Then you can get back to the schedule by turning off "Charge now." I'm sorry, but how hard would it be to put the temporary events in the scrolling list with the regular ones and have a "delete" button for temporary times like the regular ones?? Oh well, at least now I know.

■To return to original setting after changing “Next Charging Event” set- ting
Turning the setting of “Charge Now” on and then off can return the setting of “Next Charging Event” to its original setting.

Don't get me wrong. I've had Michelins and they were great. But so were the Yokohama Avids I had on the PiP. No telling how long they would have lasted. I put about 36,000 miles on them and they still looked like new. Never a traction problem. But I also got a lot of noise on rough pavement. Like you I attribute that mostly to the car. So, $85 or $126 per tire. For me, it's a no brainer.

Thanks for this tip. I now know why the temporary charge I set is still staying on my schedule.

Gee, that’s a shame Jerry. If only there was a way to drive 20 miles more efficiently!

Re French fries at Costco: on a trip up north one year, we were persuaded to try “poutine” (French fries, cheese curds, and gravy) at Costco. With apologies to anyone so offended.... Yuuuuuck!
