Just noticed the header ad for greenbeanbatteries. The company was started by my neighbor Tim, a mathematician with a car background who created the algorithm for refurbishing used up Prius batteries and those of a few other models. They send a technician to your home and replace your dead battery with a refurbished one and haul away the old one. Their warranty is five years and their price around half of what the dealers charge. The company is growing like crazy and has expanded half way across the US and into California. I just love hearing about small startups that are killing the competition and gnawing away at the outrageous profits of many huge corporations! When we finally need a new battery for one of our three Prii, it is going to come from greenbean without a doubt.
Be glad to ask greenbean for data as they have been around for over a year now. Give me a day or two to catch them at home.
I think adverts are localised, so not sure how many will see this advert. The PriusChat header advert for me at the moment is for Jaguar Australia - prior to that was a Hotel Chain in Australia - just changed to air-travel from Australia to SE Asia.
I've been watching it since - have all been local adverts. Pet insurance at the moment, a University last time I looked, Sport Attire the time before.
HI! Here is what the header ad looks like: Prius Hybrid Battery $1549 - Installed 5 Year Full Warranty Delivery and installation included at your home or work anywhere. We come to you greenbeanbattery.com Tim says to go to their website for technical data. I tried posting this the other night but could get it to work. They now cover the East Half of the US, Texas and California. So that may be why most of you can't see the ad. I'd imagine they will blanket most of the States within a year or two. Toyota definitely needs some competition as to replacement batteries!
there is a california company with brand new batteries, and a few installers around the country who will put in an oem for the low two thousands, but not enough of them. we need a 'post your green bean experience here' thread.
I'm back in the Bay Area for a family medical emergency the next few months and can't believe all the Prii at stoplights! The other day I was in the middle of six while stopped at a red light in our 2012. With regular gas pushing 4USD per US gallon, it it wonderful to drive a Prius here. I have to wonder how many batteries will need replacement in California during the next ten years. With two grands, my son and his wife are hoping to trade in their Mazda Six for a Mazda van that seats six, so we can all go somewhere in one car. Wish Prius had a van for six!
I used greenbean. The battery died in under six months. The warranty only covers one battery replacement.
That's unfortunate. But are you sure only one? We've had lots of stories of people getting them replaced over and over and over.
No i was wrong. I had been using the chat on the green bean page. It must have been a bot and its answers were confusing. I called green bean today. They said i could get multiple batteries.
Well the good news is that you have another 4 years to make use of the warranty! The bad news is that you will most likely be making use of the warranty for 4 years. 4 years of constant headaches when the car stops working at obviously the most inconvenient times and places and then a while to get another used beater battery out to you for a few more months. Curious, how long did it take from your dash lighting up to when they were on scene replacing it? Hopefully just a few days, but I haven't experienced that myself.
