I'm probably in the minority, but I've only bought the OEM battery (once each for two Gen 2 Prii). I like the warranty.

Toyota only costs a few dollars more if you use one of the frequent coupons

You don't probably need a battery, but it is your cash....

Toyota TrueStart. Good warranty. It fits. Coupons often available on dealer Web sites.

Also good old-fashion haggling at the parts counter -- sort of like buying a car -- usually gets me 15 percent knocked off the price of the "more pricey" items for three or four minutes of whining. I think the parts guys usually give in just to shut me up.

Hey, $30+ savings helps pay for these expensive Seattle lattes.....

    Toyota OEm is good.
Can also try duracell at Batteries Plus if you have that chain store in your area.

I got the Toyota one but I got internet pricing so it was not much more than the cheap ones.

Theres a battery shop nearby that recommends the 51r agm for the honda civic hybrid, they sell it for $65 but I dont know if you have to modify the cradle to hold it.

Last time I bought one for 130 off amazon.

They are hard to find cheap but look around if you want a good price. For oem you can shell out the 200+ for a toyota battery.

Why not just buy the Optima Yellow Top (DS46B24R)?

You got 10 years out of the factory original? If so, you have your answer.

    Because:
Optima is known for making some "inflated" marketing claims.
And has had some quality problems at times too.
In my opinion, they are no better than any other "name brand" AGM.

My replacement TrueStart is from December 2012. It seems to be doing well, despite the fact I have not driven the car since Dec. 2018 (my husband takes it out thrice weekly).

If it ever needs replacing (and I will know via testing voltage, etc), it will be replaced by another Toyota TrueStart. And, it is very true that you can negotiate prices at the parts counter at the dealership (don't think you would have much success at AutoZone).

I ALWAYS get them to knock off at least 10 percent -- usually 20 or so.

You HAVE to be mistaken. I was so taken by the price you quoted that I looked at one of the local stores and got a price over $200. About a year ago, it was $180. If, it were indeed $80, I would have purchased one today. No matter if I "need" it or not.

Of course, you could go the cheapo route and get one for $10. :D:D:D:D:D

Hmmm, just replying to you when you edited your post....the $80 battery you cited, while it may work, is NOT an approved replacement battery for several reasons. Not that that has stopped many folks.....just depends on your capacity for risk -- mine is extremely low these days...or is that dazessss.

I edited my post because that was not the battery of my first reference. I realized that seconds after I posted. I decided not to continue looking for the original. Just like just now ... I realized that I had more to say seconds after hitting the POST button.
