I'm just curious as to what kind of mileage my fellow Long Islanders are getting this time of year.....I used to drive from Miller Place to Garden City (75% LIE) and get sometimes 57MPG's @67mph.....Now I do a mix of around town and highway driving and get 45 MPG's at best with light A/C use.....

On my 20 mile commute between Massapequa and Greenlawn (50% of time on high way, and 50% time on local), I get low to mid 50's.

On daily ride from Babylon to Patchogue (Sunrise all the way) at 60 - 65mph, anywhere from 48 to 52mpg. I'm just shy of 2000 miles now.

Since I work from home, my driving during the week is for errands that I cant walk to or cycle to, and typical mileage is about 45-47mpg (and that is with sliding and gliding as much as possible). Since the trips are generally short, the car doesnt get warm enough (even though it is summer) to really maximize mileage. On the weekends, I head out east to Shelter Island (mostly highway) and typically get around 50-52 MPG.

I live in Centerport and most of my trips are very short...to Greenlawn, Huntington and occasionally to Walt Whitman Mall and Commack/Smithtown.

I am on my third tank of gas on my 06.

I got 30 mpg on my first tank...then I upped my tire pressures to 40/38,
I began bunching my errands, taking the longer leg first to get the ICE warmed up....using P&G when I can...although sometimes I think I try too hard and the car itself wants to go all electric mode (all yellow arrows) for some of the little up and down hills.

I coast a lot since, as most of you know, Centerport and north shore in general is VERY HILLY...I live on a very steep hill north of 25A.

My second tank came out around 42 mpg...my third thank started out at 46 mpg, but now I am down to 41.9 mpg.

So...since I don't drive highway, and do all local hill driving with short trips, the bunching of errands will help, but I may not hit that 50 mpg mark...it's fine with me, since I am retired...and don't drive freeways anymore...

    terri

Good to see this thread and any input from anyone living in other hilly areas will be appreciated!

i've clocked over 30k miles on my prius. my mpg's depend on how i drive it. i like to alternate my driving styles per tank. When I'm aggressive, I get about 45mpg. When I'm conservative I get about 50-51mpg.

Don't forget we're using E10 fuel in NY, so we have a bit of a disadvantage on mpg's.

Well I have been aver 46.6 mpgs, yet yesterday I got stuck in a massive jam at Queens center Mall parking lot and was stuck for 3 hours trying to get out and it brought my aver down to 44. Did short revs to keep the battery charged.

I drive 100 miles to work every day (Westchester) and get anywhere from 48-59 mpg each week depending on the season. In winter, I tend to get around 48 mpg and in summer closer to the 56-59 mpg range. My best has been around 63 on a tank of gas, going the speed limit or a little above with driving on the LIE at around 70 in the morning and around 20-50 in rush hour traffic.

Re: Att Long Island Prius Owners!

I'm beginning to think I'm doing something wrong. I drive 30 miles each way to work (Glen Cove to Bay Shore) 2/3 on the LIE (usually in the HOV - love that Clean Pass!). I live right off 25A, so my ride is usually 50 mph until the LIE, then 65-70 until I'm 1 mile from work. Usually, once I get on the LIE I use cruise control. I have 15k on my 2007. Up until the beginning of May, I was averaging about 38mpg per tank according to the mfd. After that it's jumped to 41-42. Not sure why the jump, but I've never seen higher than 44mpg on my mfd. I'm not sure how others are getting 50+!:(
