so i was involved in a major crash, got rear ended by a minivan who was driving at a very high speed , car is totaled and im lucky to be alive.
well i had some issues with my gen3 like egr circuitry and blown Headgasket, had a new HV battery installed free 4 months ago, but i think im sticking with toyota again,
wanted to get some info from gen4 owners in regards to main issues that i need to know, major recalls and concerns for that model'
my budget will allow me to buy a 2016 2017 used one.

    Glad you're safe.

Did you mean that you've had those issues with your Gen 3 - or a Gen 4? I haven't head of any of those 3 problems on a Gen 4 - what kilometers had it done?

No problems of any concern. I had a brake light switch go faulty, it only faulted once - never heard of any others on PriusChat (it gave multiple malfunctions with all the systems tied in with a brake pedal operation). 2 recalls here, but I think a 3rd in USA, but check with TOYOTA against the VIN# - they should be able to advise if they're done (and they put a sticker in the driver's door pillar here).

Only thing I despise on PRIUS is the stupid idiotic almost useless foot-operated hand-brake. And that Hill Holder doesn't work in reverse when facing down a hill.

How did the Gen3 hold up in the Crash? IIHS testing indicates that Gen4 is better than Gen3 - but they don't test for rear-ended crashes.

I haven't heard of those problems with Gen 4 - there was considerable redesign of all 3 for Gen 4, but then, not many have done that number of miles/kms.

You'll find a Gen 4 more fuel-efficient, and a considerably better drive than a Gen 3. The RADAR Cruise is worth getting - I think some 2016s in USA didn't have it.

For those who have tried both 17" and 15" (mine are 15"), they say the 17" drives a little better - but at the cost of extra fuel. And, at least here, the 17" wheels don't come with a spare tyre (donut).

I think 130k mi is not high at all here in california. I know many who already in their 200k and even higher. All my previous toyotas had T least 250k when i sold them.no issue finding a buyer. Im really hoping gen4 is better. Repairs on gen3 were extremely expensive but lucky me most major stuff was done free under warranty by dealer. I was averagung 50 mpg and driving almost 4000 miles per month.

    You’ll like the gen4;).

Just got a Prime today and boy is it better:).

The egr circuit and piston rings should be improved, so less to worry about(y).

Not tired of cleaning Egr’s (I have one more scheduled soon for @Pedal Logic ):).

It’s more of helping someone out;).

The Prime is the one that can be charged at the wall, and I have solar on our house and will charge at work, so at least 50 of the 80 miles I commute in a day are covered without need for gas (y).

My neighbor offered me to use his extra capacity. He bought a bmw i3 i think. And i drove it. Really nice but not enugh range. Basically he stopped buying gas for 3 months now

There was no 2016 plug in made by Toyota;).

But the 2019 we got for under $26k before taxes and other fees :).

Factor in all of the rebates and we got a great deal(y).

So today I went to schedule my appointment for the software update. I saw a Prime Advanced with MSRP of 34k and a AWD-e XLE stickered at 30k. They were both calling my name. Maybe later, when Uncle Sam starts paying my VA disability they owe me.

    Even the Plus is nice:

And even better is the mpg it delivers:

Keep in mind the Prime does not have 3 seats in the back.. it's a 4 seat car.. not 5.

Cool. Didn't know they were changing it.
May be on my list now. Although I really liked the styling on the 2018 and lower Prime body. The headlights on the prime are really cool looking..

hopefully, he did the cabin and air filters, but take a look at them. there's nothing else. check the oil level.

not sure about gen 4, but likely coming up to plugs and fluid changes soon.

If it's a local car probably ok, but Toyota USA says to do a proper brake inspection tri-yearly or 30K miles.

There's no mention in the schedule, but I would do a transaxle fluid change asap.

The 5 seater will be a 2020 model in the U.S. Our 2019 model is still a 4 seater.
