Master waring light

    :( Hi all

    My 2004 Priuse just died on the road. Right before it died there was a lunging motion and then the Master warning light on. We had it towed to the dealer who spent about an hour trying to get it started. Bottom line is that the car will not start and they have to call Toyota in. I have had all the recall installed and it has been in the shop every 3k for oil. All maintenance has been done as per the book.

    My question is. has anybody heard of this before and if so what could have caused it. I have the Toyota extended service warrenty so I do not think I have to worry about paying for it. But I am really concerned that the dealer does not know what to do now

    There could be many causes; failed components, bad gas, physical damage, etc. There is simply not enough info in the post to make an educated guess.

    Did the dealer pull any codes? If so, what were they? That will give tremendous insight and will help in the troubleshooting process.

    Thanks for the reply. Just heard back from my wife. They had to call Toyota to find out how to start the car. Once they got it started they said that the inverter was shot. The car only has 38K miles on it, but the first 13k was as a rental. The dealer said that they never had one go this quickly, but it is suppose to be covered by the extended warrenty. Thye also tell me that the warrenty pays for a rental until the car is fixed.

    I assume this is not normal :(

    no, thats definately not normal... hope mine's going to be ok, what with the added draw i have on the inverter with the sub and AC outlet!

    This is not the first time I read about inverters going bad. Makes me think if I should install an amp now.... hmm.... :unsure:

    slightly OT, you should be taking it in every 5k not 3k

    I though I would close this thread out now that I have my car back. For reference this is what the invoice said was the problem:

    "...Checked Hybrid warining light is illiminated found code P0A7A, P0A94, P0A78 stored. Check repair manual for codes and found VIN number and trouble codes match service bullitin #EG025 to replace invertor assy. Replace with new invertor assy as per TDB #EG025-05-890201.X.Z 3.1 8A.99"


    This was the first time the dealer had this error so Toyota requested that they hold my car for a day so the dealer could collect data and send to Toyota. The dealer, Dorschel Toyota, was great through this whole thing, making sure I had a rental for the time the car was in the shop (only problem, it was a four runner and got 16 miles to the gallon :eek: ) and kept me up to date.

    Thanks for the update. As stated, it's not common, but that's also not the first Inverter to go bad...I know one at my local dealer had to be replaced. I guess it's not that suprising considering the voltages that go through that sucker.

    That's where I bought my Prius! :D And they were great throughout the whole buying experience, even if it did take me only 2 hours to go from test drive to signing the papers and driving it home the next day.

    I only have 1500 miles on it so far so I have not been back to the dealer for service but I was impressed with the service department when my salesman took me on a tour.

    There's a bulletin on the inverters going out, it was redesigned at some point, I think in early 2005.
