Is that a real warning ?
OMG, I'm going to have to let my fuel run low to check it out.

That is a great description... "Flying Blind." :)

I pay $27,000 for a new Prius, and then I turn all the fun technology off! What's wrong with me?!
I better turn that stuff back on, or TidelandPrius will take away my magic FOB.

(I never said I was normal. :ROFLMAO: Once a Camry driver, always a Camry driver.)

If I refuel my car every time it reaches 1/2 tank, or 1/4 tank, I will never have to be concerned about gas mileage. Right? I can just drive and enjoy it.

Error on the side of caution. I never want to see that "low fuel" warning again. Hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, civil unrest/riots, gas shortages, huge traffic jams, whatever.... It's always in my mindset to be reasonably prepared. (especially as I get older). I don't want to get caught short.

Rough math tells me that by filling up with a half tank doubles your time at the gas stations. That can take away precious In-n-Out time.

    One man's ceiling...

Filling up when it's fallen below half for us is every three or four weeks.

...which in my case, is actually a GOOD thing considering how big I am. ;)

Me too. I could probably drive for five weeks on just a half a tank.

It also means you're carrying more weight around for at least half a tank. More weight = less mpg, For best economy treat it like an electric car with 100 mile range, put two gallons in, run to empty then put two more gallons in and so on.
Oops, I slipped back into mpg anxiety mode again there.

Living in earthquake country, I am more concerned about having a nearly full tank of gas, than I am what mpg I'm getting. I already KNOW that I am getting great mpg. 64 is excellent, for me. I'm really no longer concerned about gas mileage. It's great.

I drove around for two hours this morning, and I had those Eco displays turned off. (see my photo, above.)
I got to say, it was incredibly relaxing, with no distractions whatsoever! The only thing I have to look at is the speedometer. ;) It was really nice. Listen to music or a talk show on the radio, and just drive. I don't have to be concerned with what the electric motor and gas engine is doing. No more "dancing displays" to take my eyes off the road. It was good.

I have "Un-Priused" my Prius. :ROFLMAO:

Encore! This is why I keep my gas tank topped off. Crazy California!

(See if you can spot the red Gen4 Prius.... only a very brief shot of it.)

The way I read Susan's question was regarding her OVERALL mileage, i.e. the accumulated mileage for the total number of miles since the car was new. This feature was new for the 4th generation Prius and was in addition to Trip A, Trip B and current trip mileage readings. I too have noticed the total, overall accumulated mileage reading, spontaneously resetting itself. On my 2016 Prius it first happened when the car was about 18 months old and the mileage was at approximately 4300 miles. And it just happened again a little over a year later when the odometer reading for total miles on the car was at 6800 miles. It then starts over just as the Trip A or Trip B would do when reset. I've asked a Toyota service writer about this but he wasn't aware of an explanation of why this happened nor had he ever heard of it before. Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

This was a vintage post - Susan hasn't been back for 2yrs, 15 weeks. Hopefully she/he read the comments and sorted his/her issue out that week.

[if you've changed from a 2010 to 2016, it would be a good idea to change your profile, unless you've still got the 2010:

Thanks Alan, been a while since I visited the site and had forgotten to update my profile, but have corrected that now.
