I bought a cheap VCI cable and installed Techstream 13.00.22 on a Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) laptop. The program runs and connects to the car (2015 Prius Four) and reads the Model code and the VIN, but when I try to read any of the data (I tried to get the TPMS IDs) or initiate a test (I tried the blower motor), I see the connection progress indication (as I am calling the moving bars) on the display, but then the program simply aborts, generating a large file whose name includes the VIN and the date, and with the .TSE suffix. When I try to open that file a window pops up with my current key and a box in which I am apparently supposed to type a different key -- but then I discovered that the Open Scan Data File button takes me to these files. described as Error reports, which display screen captures of my Windows desktop.

Any idea what is going on here, and how to make use of this cable and software?

I was shopping for a cheap VCI about a month ago and I noticed that most of them are only compatible with 32-bit. You may want to check if your cable works under 64-bit. Maybe it is 32-bit issue? I honestly don't know. Perhaps you can contact your seller for support.

You can technically workaround the 32-bit. You can try getting Windows to run under compatibility-mode (but I heard that this doesn't work well). You can also install virtualization software to simulate another computer inside your laptop. Examples include Oracle VirtualBox or Windows HyperV.

I got it to run without crashing by disabling my security software (Bitdefender) -- but I cannot get it to display the IDs of the existing TPMS sensors (only enter new IDs), which I want to record so that I can switch sets of wheels/tires/sensors according to the seasons. And if I can't read the existing sensor IDs, I can't even order a set of pre-programmed clonable sensors.

Is a regular tire store going to be able to register a new set of TPMS sensors without having Techstream?

I don't remember which version I tried but there was a tab missing on the left side called the "Utility". My version would read tire pressures in TPMS but without the Utility tab I could not register another set of TPMS sensors. I emailed the company I bought it from and they said that the Utility tab was missing in that version. I have two sets of wheels and wanted to register the new TPMS sensors and still haven't got it done. Good luck.

Any tire shop will have handheld TPMS scan/program tools used for registering a new set of TPMS sensors. I highly doubt they use Techstream for that purpose. If you take your car to a dealer they may charge you ~$75 just for registering new set of TPMS, but tire shop will cost much less. They may do it for free especially if you are buying a new tires from them.

I found a YouTube video showing the retrieval of the TPMS data by clicking the Read Data button -- but the program aborted when I did that.

I then booted the laptop into Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) and installed Techstream 12.??.?? and was able to read the TPMS info without difficulty.

it may be a Techstream feature. I have experienced the same thing a couple times on 14.30.023 and W7 32 bit. I have also read others having the same problem.
