Any chance of getting a Prius in TX before Sept 30?

    My wife and I have been torn about which hybrid to get, and we finally thought we could agree on a Prius. We initially looked for one last year, but were quickly turned off by the long waiting lists and >MSRP pricing. Looking through the forums today and having called some TX dealers, it seems like the situation has changed, but only slightly. Is there any hope for a buyer to go from start to finish by Sept 30th in central TX? I have yet to find a dealer that has any in stock.

    Depends on how hard you're willing to work and how far you're willing to drive/fly.

    You call/e-mail all of the dealers within given circumference (100 miles, 300 miles, 500 miles, whatever). When you find a car, you go there and buy it and drive it back.

    If you don't care about color or package or how far away it is, you can find one pretty quick and at MSRP. If you want a specific color in a specific package, you either have to pay more, travel farther or wait longer.

    I bought a Magnetic Gray #1 with leather today at Don Davis in Arlington (believe their website is www.dondavistoyota.com). They showed me their incoming inventory on the computer and I believe they have at least one more that is not already sold. Mine is in transport and is scheduled to be there by Friday. I worked with one of their fleet managers - his name is Hal. Can't recall his last name off the top of my head, but it was a good experiece. They are selling at MSRP and gave me a fair deal on my trade. This may be too far for you, but thought I would mention it anyway.

    Thanks, that does help. Anywhere in TX or the immediately surrounding states would be ideal. If anyone else has any insight into TX dealer stocks, I'd appreciate it!

    I just priced an '06 Pkg 8 at Fowler Toyota in Dallas: $29,090 Pkg 8 Option AO which could be delivered in mid September. Couldn't make the deal due to their offer on my '04 Prius trade. I will await the '07 to consider another upgrade.
