What did you do to your Prime today?

    Didn’t see this topic in the Prime section, so here we go:).

    Bought a second charging cord so I can keep one at home and one at work. I’ve staked my spot and have it locked down for my use, so why not have a charging cord there;).

    It’s a Ford stamped cord, but the cable fits and charges the Prime, so it works for me. The guy I bought it from said the Ford Dealer he works for throws things like this charging cable away all the time, so he snagged this one and thought that what they do is wasteful.

    I thanked him for saving it(y).

    I don't know if I can trust that story of Ford throwing those charge cables out, they cost a small fortune.

    Congrats on the new car. Now there won't be much to do on that new car, you'll need to donate more of your time for meet ups

    The rain stopped for now, but still more in the forecast. Not a good day for a car wash. I never used a car washing brush, so wanted to try. Just a cheap one I picked up at a local store. IMG_20190420_141016.jpg

    Today, I explored. I took the covers off in the cargo area and checked into cleaning accessibility for the battery fans. Looks pretty easy. One advisory: the fasteners that snap the cover over the hatch sill are REALLY tight!!

    In the process I scoped out a potential route for some LED lights for the cargo area. With all that black back there, it's like a cave.

    As a car guy, I have to advise against sponges for car washing.

    That is all. :D

    Yeah I found it really dark in the hatch, especially since both the Gen 2 and 3 had light coloured cargo areas. I had a cargo mat that I bought separately for my Gen 3 and placed it in the Prime and it helped brighten the area. It’s light grey.

    Nice!! I don't think I'd spend the buck to buy one, but it would be nice to have.

    What do you think about real sponges? We live about four miles from the Tarpon Springs sponge docks where most of the sponges are harvested. (Sponges are animals, but I think the term is still "harvest.") Real ones are WAY more gentle than the fake hunks of synthetic that most people think are sponges.

    That’s fair. I figured I’d reuse rather than buy a new one for the Prime since I had it lying around.

    Speaking of which, if anyone wants a Gen 3 sunshade (heatshield. Same one in the PC shop), lemme know. Preferably local or near the Us border pickup lol.

    Well it’s more of the fact that sponges will hold the dirt and you have to be really thorough in rinsing it off in the bucket before soaping the car again, otherwise you risk transferring micro scratches from the small particles embedded in the sponge.

    I had the same heatshield in my PiP. I have a friend with another PiP but he didn't want it. Don't know anyone else local with a Gen 3. It seemed like too much bother to ship it. So I gave it to Todd (Tampa Hybrids) where I traded it in and he put it in the back of my old PiP which hadn't sold yet.

    The wonderful thing about real sponges is how thoroughly and easily they rinse. And they never harden. After they're dry, just drop them in the bucket and they instantly absorb the water -- way more water than a fake sponge. When I'm done, I take the sponge to the big sink in the garage and it rinses out and looks brand new. It's pretty amazing. Here are the dry & wet pix.

    I usually just use the touch less car wash, then wax afterwards by hand with micro fiber cloths:).

    But staring at the optimum gloss coat application @The Critic put on our 2010 has got me thinking about doing more to the Prime ;).

    So do you recommend using a brush or a microfiber mitten? To be honest, my concern is not so much about looks of paint on my car as long as road salts and grime are washed off to prevent rust to develop.

    Sponges are really mysterious animals. Some of them are now being aquacultured for pharmaceutical use. From Sea Sponge to HIV Medicine | Smithsonian Ocean And others used as "sponge". But not all sponges are suitable for that purpose.

    Touchless car washes do an extremely poor job of removing surface dirt - there is usually a heavy film leftover. I would follow up with Optimum No Rinse and their Big Red Sponge before applying any sealant. Otherwise you will be wiping dirt around and this will certainly leave swirls and marring.

    My preference is a microfibre mitt. Basically we’re trying to reduce self-imposed scratches.
