Well the car only has 61k miles on it, so if the battery goes out, the rest of the car is low mileage.

The battery is a major component, but think of it like a transmission repair that you would have on a normal car. If you do that, the car should last a lot longer and is better than a car payment.

Welp, the darn thing sold for 8105 dollars on ebay. Didn't want to say anything because some of you might try to cut in and bid in front of me lol. But here was the item number if you are interested in ebay:
    233191163724

You'd have to click the checkbox sold items on the left to reveal the item i'm talking about, otherwise you would get no search results.

Nobody is going to be racing to spend 8-10k on a gen 2 prius that are a dime a dozen for 3-5k, albeit more miles.

I have that exact car in that exact color in similar condition (with 115k miles) and my cost is $3500.

Odometer is probably the least important factor. Only people with lots of money, or fanatics/collectors are willing to overpay by thousands and thousands of dollars because the odometer has 1 or 2 years less driving than another Prius. If I owned that car it'd be over 160k miles in 2 years so what is the point in me having a 60k mile car.

Only way that is worth 8k to me (and still not) is if it has plug-in conversion and leather.

Also, hilarious way to kick off the description:
"First thing I want to say is that regardless of what the Carfax report shows, the mileage on this 2009 Toyota Prius is the actual mileage. The Honda Acura dealership that shows the mileage being higher was never visited by the original owner. They apparently were using the V.I.N. from the wrong vehicle. "

I think you got the wrong Carfax report. Ebay must have re-directed you to a similar item than the one i was originally looking at, which was silver. Ebay does that to items that have already been sold, which is re-direct you to an available vehicle for sale at the moment. You'd have to look very carefully to find "see original listing" button, and then you'll see it. Reason why I say this is because the carfax report keeps saying Alabama, whereas the one i was looking at, most of the reports are from either Arizona or California. But anyhoo, you're right, 8100 dollars is ridiculous for 61k mile car, 10 year old car, even if it's in mint condition

Gotcha, found it. Silver, california, final bid $8105. And does have leather.

I've sold on eBay and it is non-binding. Have had sales withdrawn a number of times. If they are local they bid, they come in person, and then it's just like a normal showing lol. You can get them on the immediate non-refundable $500 deposit if they decide to pay that and try to back out of sale.

When you got yours at 3500 dollars, was it in mint condition, as in no troubleshooting lights or anything? I'm trying to figure out how you folks got such a good price. Is it a California thing that prices are so high?

It's actually not in mint condition. It's in respectable condition but has flaws from making it mint.

It was a dealers auction in Maryland. High bid 3k --- and the injector on top motor was apparently not plugged in all the way so it sounded like it had a rod knock --- or better description sounded like a helicopter at idle when gas motor kicked on.

Had a check engine light for misfires, random, all cylinders...but plugging injector back in fixed everything. I'm surprised it went over $1500 considering how it sounded. I was bidding online and only reason I can think of for person standing in front of car to bid it that high is that they were the ones that sabotaged the car by unplugging injector to try to get it cheap.

Prices are high starting with root cause: dealers...They are bidding them up to 3 to 4.5k nationwide when they have under 130k miles and in good condition. So you then add 1000-1500 to that price and get street pricing. Of course you have owners that have had it for a decade --- and they still want top dollar. Even with 200k miles I see people trying to get $4000.

LOL, I've seen that type of thing, the owners wanting top dollars for their 200k mile Prius. I saw one in SF, wanted 4000 dollars on Facebook marketplace. The listing is still up. I wonder why.
