I had an Explorer, 2017 model with the 2.3L EcoBoost and 4WD.

Miss the tall ride and go-anywhereness about it, but that's about it. I'm using about 1/3rd the fuel. And that's before charging.

I find this post shallow and pedantic. ;) (in my best Peter Green voice!)
It's clear that you, sir, are one of toyota's biggest fans but your glowing words are SO hard to understand.

So, toyota is quietly getting into EV's themselves while trash talking how others are doing it ahead of them, correct?
Please tell us their wisdom of all that!

Had to give up a 1993 Acura Legend, since the wife and I have too many vehicles. I still miss the silky smooth v6.

Yes, those Legends were indeed that - Legends. Had a 91, then 5 '89-'90s. Still have one '89 left as my back up for the Prime.

My newest car was the 2008 Prius I traded in on my 2016 Prius. I had never traded in " given away " a car before.

At one time I had a Hyundai Sonata hybrid. Good car, 4 door, lots of room, good MPG (45+). One winter I got stuck in the snow 3 times, decided I needed a AWD and bought a Subaru Crosstrek. Not a bad car but mileage was 30 or so, best part was we didn't get any snow for the next 3 years. Yeah, NEVER used the AWD.

I happened to see a video on youtube about plugin hybrids and got interested. I really get a kick out of knowing my daily commute is done without using any gas.

Once in Arkansas. Didn't surprise me too much as the road leading to my house is all hills and curves. I do just fine driving in a bit of snow but geez, get an inch of snow and 90% of the population ends up in a ditch :) In this case the car ahead of me slowed to a crawl going up a hill, wasnt much I could do.

The other two times that same season were in New Mexico and Texas. Was a fairly bad snow storm, I ended up stuck in a hotel in Hereford TX, right next to the cattle yard(or so I thought by the smell). Not exactly a recommended tourist spot.

    That would be because:
    1. They have no experience driving in snow
    2. They don't have snow tires
    3. If they have 4WD or AWD, they drive like idiots because they think they will be saved by 4 wheels pulling. Sadly for them, 4WD/AWD assists in starting, doesn't do squat for stopping.
#3 applies to people up here in snow country as well.

It applies to people here even on perfect roads in perfect weather!! My favorite so far was the giant SUV I saw standing on its nose leaning its roof against a utility pole next to US19 not far from home on a nice, sunny day.

It was good car, but after I got the dreaded IMA engine light on (i.e. dead hybrid battery) for the second time, I decided to put it out to pasture.

AWD/4WD may help get you out of a ditch, but doesn't prevent you getting into the ditch in the first place.

the prime is my wife's car.

her first car was a Geo Prism - ( basically, a corolla made in California) - that car was totaled in front of her high school. (She was hit.
2nd was a 94 Mazda 626 v6. The car handled great but nickel and dimed her for the 4 years she had it.
3rd car was a 97 Honda Civic LX. Great car but small and unsafe. She owned it for 3 years I think.
4th was a 2000 Lexus LS400. I pushed it on her. I'm a total Lexus LS fanatic. I had a 95 at the time and the 2000 model was the pinnacle of the LS400. It was gold, safe, comfortable and very reliable. She drove it regularly from 2010 to 2015. We sold it a few weeks after she got her Prime. I wanted to keep it but it was too tired and rusty to be worth it fixing it up. The Nakamichi Stereo still is the best audio system I have heard to this date. Listening to Bach's cello suites and Mozart's Requiem was amazing in that car. The delicate clarity of that sound system still blows me away.
5th car was a 2006 Scion xB I bought to ferry our newborn son around in (and preserve our 95 & 00 LS400s from baby barf). I bought it in 2014 and wife liked it enough to make it her daily instead of the Lexus. I daily drive the Scion now. No more LS400s now. I drove LS400s for 12 years. I'd still love to have one in great condition. Maybe one day.

6th car is the Prime. She loves it. It is short on cargo space, but she loves almost never visiting a gas station. Plus it is safe and plenty comfortable. I pushed her to buy the prime after I saw the amazing deals that were posted on this forum.

I was a 1st Gen Acura Legend fan myself. Had five at one time (for entire family). Now down to one.
