Does anybody know what this is for? This is a 2014 Prius V. The dealer does not know either. Apparently it is meant to be wide open to the elements. My concern is corrosion as water and salt splashes up there. I am tempted to cover it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your response.

Does the OP mean above the rear license lamp? Rear camera mount?

That’s also the location of the hatch opening button.

And next to it there is the keyless entry lock/unlock button, if equipped.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate" Cool Hand Luke (the Captain)....

First I am sure he is talking about a Trapezoid, not a rectangle ("a failure to pay attention in Geometry")
Second, I believe he is talking about the top center brake light, not the backup light ("a failure to know his car")
Third, he is probably not responding due to Priuschat defaults ("a failure to set notifications")

Fourth, Paul Neumann should not have been breaking into Parking Meters ("which lands him in a Southern prison work gang and his 'failure to communicate' scene and ultimate demise") which of course is totally irrelevant just like this post...

Last, I suspect its mission in life is to spray cleaning fluid on the back glass.

How would water splash way up there?? That was the concern in the OP.

My guess would be a missing bumper reflector but the dealer should know that.

As rkparker said, it's where your windshield washer fluid for the rear window sprays out from.
