Red traingle with high beam sign on mfd

    Folks, this is so disappointing I've got the sign of death aka red triangle with head light sensor warning on my 2005 toyota prius. Took it to Toyota dealer, diagonosed it for 140$ they say, 645$ to fix it. I mean are you crazy, almost $700 to fix a sensor. I was wondering if anyone knows alternate way to fix this, I'd really be grateful for my whole life. Besides the car runs just fine. I just need to get rid of the Red triangle sign.

    That is not the high beam sign, it is an icon that indicates the headlight auto adjust sensor attached to left rear strut is broken. It is usually the little connection rod that suffers from corrosion and breaks. If you want to do it cheaper, buy a replacement part and change it yourself.

    I too took it to Toyota to see what it was about, and if I remember correctly it was going to be >$400 to fix. They said it was corrosion, and I intended to track down the problem and try cleaning it but never got around to it. It's been a couple of years now with no apparent consequences... I might go looking now with the hint that it's near the strut.

    So I looked it up under the rear tire found the sensor, it seemed prefectly okay. The only thing I noticed is that the lower end of strut was loose while the upper end of the strut was tight. I unplugged the sensor which joins to the computer of the car and plugged it again while the car of on rest. The red triangle light with the sensor light on my MFD is still on.

    There should be at least one diagnostic trouble code to be read. If you read your codes, it should give you more detail about what is the issue.

    Read your codes and post here for more help.
