    Hey there,

I just went through the cleaning process for the EGR valve and cooler today. I did the best I could with limited time and it did turn out to be an all day project, but in the end, the bumping is gone and my car is in much better shape.

My concern is the lost fluid from the cooler. No one has mention how to replace this fluid in any of the tutorials that I can find. Is it a closed system? Or does it pull from one of the two reservoirs? Any help with how to replace the lost fluid and bleed the air so I don't over-heat my system?

Thanks in advance. This forum has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

It pulls from the engine coolant loop;).

So make that’s to the line and you’re good to go :).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Thank you so much! When things looked okay after the cleaning, I assumed thatst where it came from. Unfortunately, now I'm leaking about 5 quarts every 1000 miles. Yes, you read that right, but I'll ask about that in a different thread.

    Head gasket issue?

    Any dash lights?

No dash lights. That stay on. I get that low oil pressure warning every once in awhile on a hard turn, but that's even with me topping the oil off every time I fill up gas. Also, in another forum they mentioned the piston ring replacement...is that worth it?

You have a serious oil consumption issue and this was occurring prior to the egr cleanse?

    What was consumption rate prior?

How often were you topping up prior to the egr cleanse?

The egr circuit cleanse does not solve the oil consumption, it just helps ensure the air flow isn’t impeded.

    No miracles there.

Have you checked for leaks around reservoir and cables yet?

    How many miles on it?

What does coolant leaking into cylinders result in, at the tail pipe? White smoke, IIRC?

Remove the spark plugs and run an inspection camera cable in, look for coolant. Cylinders one and two (standing at the front, left to right) seem to be the most leak prone.

Oil consumption wasn't bad, but I did have the light blink at me once and I kept oil in the car since that time. Definite HUGE increase after the EGR cleaning.

I didn't measure the rate before because it wasn't outside of normal compared to my last prius.

I rarely had to add any oil before that point, just during a road trip to UT from AZ.

Oh, the coolant wasn't leaking, the OIL leaked into the engine more.
