I'm curious about their rates to remove and replace on-site for you. I'm sure there are some who aren't tool-savvy and would rather pay for that than go through the trouble themselves.

Hmmmm. Having done 2 now, I do wonder how much it would cost to have a local shop clean an EGR cooler by ultrasound. I'd pay $25 (if it was perfect). Pressure washing easily gets you 95+% of your flow back in minutes. But in mine there was still a fair amount of caked on carbon that could maybe reduce heat transfer. (As shown by filling the cooler with water, tapping gently with a rubber mallet, and then examining the effluent.) 30min of wire reaming got most of the rest.

If under-cooled exhaust gas is actually a concern for head gasket health, the most dangerous period is sometime after the carbon has insulated the fins from cooling, but not yet blocked the flow of hot gas from reaching the intake manifold. Thinking out loud here, sorry to ramble....

I bought a replacement egr valve and cooler on ebay recently for $90. Took a little extra searching to find the updated egr valve being sold with a cooler. The bonus was both have already been cleaned! Look like new inside. They are in a box in the attic until I need them. The wife’s 2015 grocery getter only has 48k miles so it will be awhile before I need them.

Yeah but your secret's out: probably a suitable pressure washer in the Canadian Tire flyer we just got. ;)

    Oh you retired folk:rolleyes:.

    I drop 10k every 5 months:eek:.

But now with a Prime that’s going to be a tank of gas every month or so not one a week:).

Oil catch can is on its way too, so more to come(y).

Any idea where the OCC will be installed?
Have other G4 owners installed OCCs?

I bought mine when I lived outside of Seattle. Used it all the time to remove the black plaque. Don't use it so offen in Mass. Some day I will pull out the original EGR cooler to clean.

Not sure about the occ’s on others, but I have a feeling it isn’t a big thing there yet;).

Don’t mind starting something and seeing where it goes:).

Only running the engine so infrequently leaves opportunities for lights to collect and I don’t want to wait(y).
