Hello im andrew. I own a 2010 prius have had it since 30k miles currently have 145k it very recently started acting up in morning. i wouldnt call it a cold start cause i were i live its 75 outside at 5 am. but what it does is after sitting over 5 hours. i will take off (even letting it idle for 3 minutes till engine is warm)and its almost a complete loss of power to were it feels like the regen is applying. after 3-5 seconds and slowing down 5 to 10 mph i have to mash the throttle and it takes off like a bat out of hell and returns to normal...no rough idle no mpg loss no issues after 30mph. i had car hooked up no codes. plugs were done 60k ago so there due soon. funny thing is i work at a toyota dealer. but with out codes its hard to chase a issue. and to be honest the prius's really dont break down that often so it makes even harder when none of the techs have seen this issue. any ideas would be helpfull. thank you

Maybe you have to clean your throttle body

So I clean throttle body 2 days ago. After this started happening. And my egr was replaced under the special service campaign. About 6 months to a year ago...(doesnt mean it's not clogged again) but when my egr was clogged and the ICE would turn on it would normally rattle.. this is almost like the engine doesnt want to turn on..like it's taking longer for the engine to turn over.

From my experience, ambient temps in 70F range- ICE starts up and shuts down within a minute, but in the 20F weather about 120 seconds. I've yet had ICE idle for 3 whole minutes. Could be the HV on the way out, hope it's the 12v bat instead.

Would the 12volt battery cause issues like that..and I'm sorry if I was vague I turn it on in the morning about 70 to 80 outside and I take off about 3 to 5 minutes later. It does kick on and off about two to three times depending on what I have ac set at.. usually about 68 degrees auto.

    How’s the fuel pressure?

    Any dash lights displayed?

No dash lights. They did say there was a history of a battery code. But that was about a year ago when my inverter went out. (Replaced under Toyota special service bulletin). And no I have not checked fuel pressure. Is there a way to check via a techstream computer or only with a manual gauge?

If your having power related issues, it’s either air or fuel, or the metering of both ;).

If the MAF sensor and throttle body are clean, I’d look at the fuel delivery system. Pulling our 2010’s out at 200k miles, it definitely had a bunch of sediment in the inlet filter:cool:.

But obtaining the pressure isn’t easy(y).

If this were my car, I would first disconnect the battery and reset it. Then I would take the MAF sensor from another of my cars and try it out in the problematic car. Cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body can cause some issues if not done correctly

Ok after the master techs test drive in the morning I'll have him look at some of these things.. my biggest concern was hybrid battery. I do get a realllllly good discount on the hybrid battery new. But it still ain't cheap haha.

I can swap out MAF sensors.. there are about 15 different Prius from 2010 to 2015 on our lot at all times.. bad thing is we just sold our 2018 prius prime. Premium. Never had a issue with the 2010 so we figured hey why not sell the new car we still owe on and keep car that's paid off. (Were in prosses of buying new home). Urghhhh. Bad idea haha
