I don't like Android because it's less secure and updates can be a problem if it's not a Google branded phone. I'm an IT guy.. :)

Used phone on ebay works for me. I have several Google Pixel (Gen1) for using as dedicated auto scanner and for other apps. ~$30/phone. Was originally ~$600 3 years ago, I think. I can never find 3 years old iPhone that cheap.

So CarPlay is only for the prime model and not for the regular model? So they are trying to get more people to buy the prime version cause it’s more expensive. I’m waiting for it to come to the regular Prius. I’m rolling a 13 Prius so I’m gonna wait like two more years. Hopefully they have it on regular version by then.

How is the Prime more expensive than the regular Prius after the $4,500 federal tax credit? You may also get a state rebate / credit or local energy company rebate.

Those big rebates are to match state incentives in other markets. California is in the top five for state plug in incentives.

Toyota has already come out and stated that they're interested, by they won't accept sharing all of the information google requires to use Android Auto. If anything, it's cool to see Toyota be protective over customer privacy.

That doesn't make sense any more, now that Toyota has announced that it will put Android Auto into the Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, and Sequoia.

... and, according to recent reports, Android Auto will also be available in the 2020 Highlander.

This is actually relatively common on cars with vertical screens. I know Volvo has this.

I cannot stand Apple. I support over 200 iPhones @ work and I can definitely say that I would never own one.

Android is much more intuitive to me and I like the ability to customize MY phone, not Apples. Too bad that the big makers have locked down their bootloader. I used to switch to a different mod as soon as I got the phone out of the box.

Too bad they (Toyota) doesn't increase the battery capacity from year to year. I would be carefully studying each new model and thinking about a car refresh. Even without redesigning the existing pack, there's that space under the pack, and else where. I'm biased this way because my commute is 26 miles one way, and where I work has chargers, but I can barely make on pure EV. Can't if it's too cold, it's raining, or the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.

Actually, probably the one feature I’d most like to see would be “charge to <N>miles,” rather than always charging to full. That, since I need to charge at home to only about 21-22 on the Guestimatron to get to work where I have quasi-free charging available.

I'd rather have charge to x%.

I did buy a 2020 Prius Prime, however have no idea how to connect and use car play. The USB port near the cup holder doesn’t seem to be the right one and I can’t find any other USB port near the display. Anyone had a chance to try?

Did you enable CarPlay in the iPhone settings?
That should be the correct USB port.

Thank you. I don’t see car play in my iPhone settings app. I suspect my company disabled it via remote device management (it’s my personal phone, but configured it to receive work emails). Hard luck!!!
