There's a speaker looking thing on the MFD? Is it on the top of it or on the front/face? I have a sun shade mounted over mine so maybe I've overlooked it...

No, she'he hasn't been anywhere cool like your's to get a deserving shot.

My friend came to my work today to take my car to the tint shop- so soon it will be looking sleek! Be on standby for the pics- I know you are all so excited being that you've never seen a Prius before! :p

Any tips for the "black" car owner? I have never owned a black car before- in all the 18 other cars I have owned! Should I get a duster?

On the top, so the part that faces the winshield since it slopes... There is a large opening/speaker looking thing... don't know what it's for- my '05 didn't have one!

Can I use voice commands for anything else, or just the phone? I wasn't sure since I do not have NAV

Perhaps on your drive down to SoCal you can take a scenic route and get a deserving shot? I may be putting a new avatar up soon once my and hubby's cameras get downloaded. We got some great shots of Max with Half Dome in the background while we were in Yosemite over the weekend. :D :D :D

I can't wait to see the pics of your new baby with tint! I never tire of seeing Prius pictures. I'm sure there are many others who feel the same way... :D

The only thing I can think of with regards to having a black car is to wash it (or have it washed) every 1-2 weeks. The car I had for the 9 years previous to the Prius was also black (actually more of a black-gold but still in the black color family). I don't mind too much when my car starts looking filthy (as he does now after 4 days of mountain driving and some dirt/gravel roads and several hundred run-ins with bugs)...but a lot of people don't like to have to wash their car that often to keep it looking 'nice'~they tend to gravitate towards lighter colors that don't show the dirt/dust quite so prominently.

When the Prius is all washed and shined up, you might notice swirls in the black paint. I've heard this is pretty normal with black cars, and a good wax job will help to make the swirls more unnoticeable. I don't mind them but I try to get a wax a few times a year regardless. :D

I don't know what a duster is...but you've owned 18 cars?!? I know you and I are pretty close in age, so how did you manage to go thru that many cars in such a short time?? I've had 3, the first of which was totalled within 4 months of buying it...

Congo~rats on the new baby, be sure to post pics :p
Tint is the more beutiful and the sun block is even better.

I love my Silver-pine, at first i didn't and green wasn't my first choice (don't Toster hear, being my cars name) but the color grew on me and now i don't want any other color.
to me (like all of you) my baby is the bestest and no other will do....

I wanted a Prii and didn't care what color as they are hard to get in the SanDiego area i traveled to all dealers and finally FINALLY found an unclaimed one hehe it was white #8 but not wanting leather we started signing papers and lo and behold a green one drove up on the delivery truck, quickly adjusting the paperwork with new VIN's 3 buyers within 20 minutes also wanted my beutiful new silver-pine baby.

    hehe no smug here ;)

having added tint, lojack, aftermarket NAV, and tire ring color I don't know what i did without the NAVi hehe

That is in fact the 9th speaker behind the MFD. I believe is a tweeter which produces some of the higher frequencies, and there would be no risk in covering it beyond changing the sound performance in the car. I recall a thread some time ago where some owners actually disconnected this speaker to "improve" the sounds. Never tried it, and is obviously a judgement call.

With regards to the voice commands, they can be used to control NAV, phone, and I recall reading you can adjust the climate control temp as well, though I have never been successful with that. Perhaps that only applies to US models with fahrenheit? Not sure...

I only really use the voice commands for NAV, and for that purpose it works quite well, as long as you close the windows and speak clearly. ;)

My experience has been any numbers with a "dash" will go over ok too. so numbers like 800-555-1212 will work fine.

Hey, congrats on the new black beauty.

    Cheers to ya

Rancid- Not all of the vehicles have been new- one was a 1973 bug that was a project car- some were just cars that I bought for cheap, drove for a little while and sold for a profit- I love cars! What I like to do is buy a pickup- abuse it for awhile, then sell it for a profit haha- worked well so far. You went to Yosemite and didn't say hi in Fresno? I am gonna pout now

OK OK everyone, as long as this works here are some pics of my new baby! Windows look great! I love the sun visor- altho it's hard to see in these pics. Rest assured, I will take the car on a fun trip and get some "real" pics!

EDIT- OK, not working so I will try to post on a new topic.

I am a Real Estate Appraiser and rely heavily on GPS and therefore am real picky about my GPS system I guess. For the cost it really does suck but it's fun and kuhl factor is up there. City use is commendable and signal strength is good. Here are my thoughts . . .

    1) You or your passenger can't use portions of the system while moving. (Get familiar with voice command)
    2) Vast amounts of the valley or other rural areas and smaller cities in the US have insufficient data to give you turn by turn instructions. Toyota claimed that this is a safety feature when I complained.  <_<
    3) Level of information displayed is pathetic.
    4) Yearly updates are expensive.
    5) Voice recognition is spotty. For instance "Madera" gives me just about anything including cites starting with P,C,S,B and probably more I have forgotten all the others.
    6) You can only put in 5 addresses at one time and it will not reorganize for best route.
    7) Does not have a automatic zoom feature when approaching turns that I have found.
    8) Level of modification of information displayed is once again pathetic.

For the 2+ grand I could have bought a Garmin and had $1500 left over to spend on Mod‘s. That and the fact that my 2006 Highlander did not even come with a GPS option so I could have transferred the Garmin back and forth.

If'n you need help with the Bluetooth send me a PM or leave a post and maybe I can meet you somewhere and help you set it up. The usual problem is that people don't pair the devices.

    Let me try... :D

    Coming up Tioga Pass

Half Dome at sunset in the background (it's so brightly lit by the setting sun you can hardly see it, bummer!)

Hubby took some better pictures for me, but has yet to download his camera.

Consumption screen showing avg mpgs from Mammoth Lakes to Yosemite Valley. Lots of downhill at the end, hence the 100mpg bars. It ended up topping out at 58.5mpg after some driving around the valley for a bit and stuck around to just over 50mpg before my next fillup on the way home Tues.

(I import all my pics into Photobucket before posting them here if that helps you at all)

LOL! Fresno is just too far. We only went as far north as the Tioga Pass turnout en route to Yosemite. Didn't even make it to Mono Lake this time, we were only there for 2 full days (not counting Sat & Tues as they were 'travelling' days). We spent those 2 days at Rock Creek Lake, Convict Lake, and Yosemite Nat'l Park. Maybe next time? Oh wait you'll be living down here soon, right? ;)
