I’m going to buy my first Prime in the next 6 months and was wondering what the consensus was among those who’ve opted for the Plus with the smaller dash screen, vs the large one.
Has anyone chosen one and then regretted it? What’s the pros and cons from you owners using it every day?
I’m not sure if I need the larger screen.
I may be looking at the 2020’s coming out because of the 5th seat.
    Thanks!

If you don't think you need it, don't get it! It's just to make people feel cool like they're in a Tesla. I have Premium and find it useless at best, a pain at worse. I use my phone for navigation. I would have been fine with Plus but I travel a lot and wanted the charging cable lock. Also I preferred the leather and the $1500 difference between Plus and Premium wasn't that small IMO. I think the Plus may even have a CD player which the big screen eliminates.

I bought an Advanced. I don't really like the large screen, it really isn't any more functionality other than a bigger screen for GPS navigation. But I still don't regret what I got because of the other things that come with the advanced, like blind spot monitoring, HUD, ...

Kimberly, the people that like the big screen like it and those that don't, don't. Neither side is going to change the other's opinion. I like my large screen in my Advanced and features that are bundled with it. You are going to have to decide which screen size and features you like. All vehicles have bundled packages and trade offs. You've got to decide which is right for you. It's Android vs Apple. No right answer. (Answer: Android) ;)

The Plus screen is the same one that most other Toyotas have. It's more than fine in my opinion.

I didn’t mean it to be a right or wrong thing, just an opinion thing. For example, now I know the Plus May have a CD player which I’d like. My 2005 Prius has a 6 cd changer and I kind of like having it. I was wondering if people found it distracting due to its size -that type stuff. I like the plug lock but like cloth seats. I like a CD player but a large screen would be helpful with navigation maps.
I’ll weigh all these but am leaning towards the Plus. Didn’t know if I was missing out on much with the standard screen. I appreciate all the feedback. Prius has changed a lot since 2005, lol.
I picked mine up the day after Hurricane Katrina, coincidentally, then you couldn’t find them with gas soaring. I’m waiting on the 2020’s for the 5th seat, which I have now.

If the screen size was the only difference between Plus and Premium, I would have chosen Plus. That said, if I had a real choice, I want neither. I don't need infotainment system or navigation. I hate touch screen control. Give me real knobs and dials and no touch screen, that's what I want, but that was not available for PRIME. I ended up buying Premium, that's because it was cheaper than quote I got for a Plus from another dealer. The dealer I purchased did not have Plus trim in stock.

I prefer the tactile HVAC controls and the CD player. I also prefer the cloth seats over the Softex. The only feature I would've liked, but is lacking from the Plus, is the parking sensors.

Get Premium. While the big screen only looks like Tesla's and in reality sucks, you do get used to its size and after a while will find factory screens in other cars uncomfortably small.

And isn't Plus missing heated seats? Those are must haves unless you live in Sahara.

To me the screen size is not where I made decision on. All the negative things discussed on larger screen such as lack of tactile feedback, occasional glare, etc. are there. But I got used them, and no longer negative to me. If you value least cost, Plus/Premium is fantastic. If you value bundled features like Parking Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Head-Up Display, Safty Connect, consider Advanced. If you drive alot, Prime Advanced's higher monthly car payment may not be as bad as you think because of gas money you will save driving you Prime.

Thanks for all the input. Gives me some things to think about when weighing what options are most important to me.

Excellent reasons and I have to add heated steering wheel for my neck of the woods as well as remote climate and charge management from your phone. Stuff I use everyday includes the auto dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink and the rain sensing wipers.

I'm a fan of the heated steering wheel, though I originally thought it was over the top. Rear Cross-Traffic has been great - I often find myself parked between two large SUVs, and the sensors have spotted cross-traffic before I could see past my neighbors.

Yes on occasion when I thought I’ve parked far enough away from everybody I usually end up surrounded by pickup trucks. It really helps because I’m still one of those people who actually turn around and look towards the back as I’m backing out. The quick beep-beep-beep the Rear Cross-Traffic alert makes has made me stop and recheck the rear camera before continuing to back out. It has even picked up the occasional bicycle.

In all honesty the Heads-Up Display, has me ignoring just about every other display in the car. It’s right smack in front of the driver just below where you normally look to drive. But the Navigation on the big screen is great for situational awareness because its shows a lot of side streets that are coming up or running parallel and it is easy to see because the display is rather big for quick glances even when not using it for Navigation. So yeah I too am used to using it to get to all the functions in the car. I just rarely touch it while driving.

    I have the Plus.

Honestly, I don't use the touchscreen much except for switching between the phone audio and the radio. The dashboard contains all of the info/diagnostic information I could ever want and my phone has the important apps I use (music, navigation, calls, etc). I would have been perfectly happy with no touchscreen.

I personally would recommend deciding between the Plus/Premium/Advanced based on the other options than the touchscreen. However, go watch some Entune app demos on YouTube to see if there are any you would likely use regularly. If so, the bigger screen would likely be beneficial.

My wife has a 2017 Advanced and my mom has a 2018 Plus. I love tech but when it comes to the screen, i prefer the plus model. The interface is a bit more traditional, intuitive and responsive. The JBL sound system does not sound different to me and I consider myself a mild audiophile.

Honestly, i like the cloth seats in the Plus more too. If i could get a prime with heads up display, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Parking Sensors, smaller screen and keyless sensors for passenger door and trunk, that would be perfect. Add a solar sunroof from gen 3 too!

This is the main reason I went with the Advanced model. Cross traffic alert is awesome along with the remote climate control. The size of the screen was a non issue as the Advanced model was the only one that had the features I wanted. I wouldn't have cared if the screen was small or big.

Hi there I just got the Plus and mine does have a CD player. As for navigation maybe I’m so used to google maps on my phone that it’s not that big a deal. The nav lady gives directions plus there’s directions that pop up on the dashboard so I’m not really looking at the navigation screen.

I think if you wait for the 2020 you may lose out on tax credits if that’s a concern since they’re phasing that out this year.
