That's a good spot to be, right where yours is. Last oil change I did, I checked after, convinced myself it was a bit low, added some, so now it's about 1/8" over the top mark. Not enough to worry about, "if" you're a normal, non-obsessive person...

Welp.. she threw that catalytic converter code for the 3rd time. Looking online for the beat price. Looks like $1500 for part number 1741021500. Seems like the Cat comes as the full assembly?

Any ideas of where I can find the best price? Any help would be appreciated!

    Here you go.

Toyota Parts Center Online | Genuine Toyota Parts & Accessories

Check around at the different dealers as far as your comfortable driving too. The prices can vary from dealer to dealer.

Don’t throw the old one away. Wasn’t someone paying 350? For the old ones?

Any ideas of who was buying them? It’d be great to make a couple hundred..

These are the ones I’ve found. Not sure about shipping costs though.

    $1139 - Seems shady..?

With parts center online you just request counter pickup as your filling out the form. No shipping that way. When you start you get a list of nearby dealers based on your zip code, you can price different dealers as far out as your willing to drive to pick it up.

That cat buying guy had a post here about it. Don’t recall his name though.

Next gas fill up and looking good! Definitely feeling better about replacing the Cat with oil consumption looking like this. This was warm engine (not operating). Will look again when cold.

Didn’t get Odo reading last check. My guess is about 400mi ago.

200,613mi and still looking good. Can’t wait to move in with my gf, it will save a lot of drive time. I put on 620mi this week. This is overnight cold check. Still some good color. I’m definitely happy!

Cat ordered and hoping to install soon. They are on back order and new shipment coming into CA soon. Check engine light for Cat code disappeared so I took it through inspection (it was Due Jun 9).. she passed (in Delaware)! Not sure how, but got a 2 year renewal.. she still needs a new Cat though.

Maybe? I have a road trip coming up. Gonna keep my eye on it and maybe soak another round of mmo in the case when I get back, before I replace the Cat. I wonder if the bad Cat has anything to do with it.. pressure differences etc..?

Duh.. I was parked on a sloped driveway facing up hill. The equivalent of pissing into the wind.. lol. I probably overfilled. She’s running ok though.

Yeah not sure, but I'd suspect the dipstick is well towards the front of the sump: it goes in on the front, slope will take it further back, not I don't think much. So pointing uphill would drop the level.

Hey: you could do a test: park both directions, see how much difference there is.

Not completely hooked up yet? That underside looks very clean and minimal rust. (y)

What did that cost? Toyota, or?

Londoners are seeing their 2nd gens near-totalled by CAT thefts.

It wasn’t completely hooked up when I took the picture. Yeah, she’s nice and clean for having 200,000 miles!

The Cat was $1700 from Toyota and my friend put it on for free. It fit like a glove. So far, it’s night and day! The rattle is gone.. will update after a few hundred miles.

Purring like a kitten! I should have replaced the Cat long ago.. lol. I wonder why the Cat check engine code took so long to go off? Seriously, It had to have been bad for at least 80,000 miles.

The rattle and other noises appear to be gone, much better acceleration, and it just feels like she is breathing easier overall.

Let’s see if this further helps oil burn. I put almost a qt of oil in at the last gas fill up yesterday. I had put about 3,000 miles on her in about 3 weeks.. drove from DE to SC and back & moved my entire house (sans furniture) one trip at the time.

Did oil change today too. Current mileage at oil change is 203,384.

Still waiting to change transmission fluid. We ran out of time today.

If it keeps burning oil, it might be worth giving thicker oil a try. I've read that RAVENOL SVS Standard Viscosity Synto Oil SAE 5W-40 might be a good choice for such a high mileage car, if you can get it in the United States. Its made specifically for high mileage engines.

Just picked up a gen 2 2006 145K and doing some restore work to it. Based on the Carfax, etc. this one has been mostly sitting since 2013. This is a great thread to get started so thanks.
