Swapping in a Gen 4 Prius' 2ZR Engine into the Prius v

    It’s a pretty simple valve. Electrical current moves a magnet opening the valve. I’m just not sure if the computer reduces the voltage or it just gets a full 12v dc of course. So if your ambitious, you could apply 5v (usb charger), the. Step up to 9v, and lastly 12v. It’s just a simple winding, so polarity will matter, but shouldnt ruin anything. Mine is being shipped back from the cleaner otherwise I’d go test it for you.

    I'm kinda glad those screws on the cover defeated me. You can clean it without disassemble, just coming at it from both ends.

    huh, i didn't even think twice about those screws. Just stuck a screwdriver in and turned, no fighting with them at all. Since I ended up putting mine in a cleaning bath, pulling the electronics off was imperative. But, you're right, manually cleaning is easy and no need to pull the cover. But if you want to open and close the valve manually, the cover has to come off. Like I said, if i had it in my possession I'd test it, but it should be on it's way back from the cleaner as we speak.

    thanks for all your comments, it helps knowing you have a support group in your corner to help fight this corporate pile of needed upgrades!
    I got the fuel line removed @ 10:30 or so (pic shows the tool I used. I borrowed it. It looks like the Lisle brand #34750. Now I feel I'm finally getting somewhere IN THESE WOODS, maybe more lost, we'll see by mid-night...
    Going to go pay for and order my intake man. o-ring, mines a little too squished. While I'm there, I think I'll waste a little time requesting the service manager print me out the testing procedures from the Toyota service manual, on that EGR. The connector has 6 terminals in it, & I agree with cnc97, that's too many for me to start guessing. Since I spent 4-5 hours it seems, running around buying 2 different sets of "fuel line disconnects", spending $30-$40, then had to borrow one. What's 30 more minutes while trying to get the correct test procedure and saving my $170?
    I have the motor slung with slight pressure applied, and ready to remove the transmission bolts. but it's been a while since I've nourished my body, so I'll finish off the rest of that subway from yesterday. Now I feel similar to "Joe" who didn't get paid by Taco Bell. "What is the Deal?"

    With everything disconnected and out of the way, the engine will be out in no time. It’s only 7-8 bolts holding it in.

    Are you using a come-a-long connected to a rafter to lift the engine? If so, how will you move it out of the way and get the new one hovering? Not asking in a judgmental way, genuinely curious so I can do the same thing when I am ready to do mine.

    The EGR Testing pdf (attached) might be what you need, and there's a couple of others, just in the neighbourhood. If you can think of anything else, just lemmee know, torque values or whatever.

    He's got the front wheels on dollies IIRC, gonna do a @Ragingfit on it I think: lift engine, then push car out of the way.

    motor is out and on the floor:):):). seems like that may have been the "easy" part :(! sooooo much to do...
    ordered the gasket, service manager gave me the ohms measurements from the manual, and is also supposed to e-mail me the complete wiring diagram.
    spiralhelix, there is a pic of my set-up attached. I planned on just pushing the car from underneath the engine like ragingfit did, BUT my blocks, as large as they are, still wanted to try and roll over, THAT FREAKED ME OUT. The idea of the car plummeting to the floor...So use HUGE blocks that are ROUND..:)confused::confused:how ironic, the square blocks wanted to roll, but the round blocks would not roll:confused::confused:) Therefore, I had to adapt to my situation and quickly, but it wasn't pretty as documented with the pics attached.
    cnc97, I removed 9 bolts, I hope I didn't make another mistake....and it was quick even with the ex man left on, plenty of room, for me anyhow.
    mendel, thank you for the tech info, i'll look at it closer tomorrow when I mess with the EGR again.

    It’s been almost a year since I pulled mine. I couldn’t remember exactly how many eng to trans bolts there were.

    Cool. Thanks for the pics. Kinda jelly of your garage beam with winch. I need that!!!

    After seeing the dolly on the front drivers wheel and then the block on the passenger side, makes sense now. The wood “ramp” was a nice backup though.

    If you could slip the Prius tranxaxle into Neutral it'd help. A lot, lol.

    Hindsight: Maybe could have put the front wheels back on, raised the front with floor jack and put those wheel dollies just under the front wheels.
