Up about 3 mpg average after the install. Pretty happy with my red bullet so far. Keep in mind I'm running 18 inch wheels and 140 treadwear 215 tires all around, so this is pretty great mpg.

    Hi Chip,

That is awesome news! I hope you are enjoying the extra oomph too. I am glad it is working out for you! 3mpg might still go higher as time passes and with those shoes you must be doing something really serious!
    Thank you for sharing!

After changing wider tyres. My FC is affected haha not surprised with the increased rolling resistance and grip. Will try revert back to stock and compare. Also will try reset all adaptations and see if it helps anything.

This will take awhile to test and compare. I'm getting around 17.3KM/L with the same driving style on these rubbers. Auxiliary batt went low when my mechanic forgot to off ACC while we were trying to do something to the car. Had to indent the battery as it's a "R" instead of "L" model.

Ok...just an update on my current mpg. The car is maxing out at 66.2mpg atm (28.14km/L). That's with 50-50 highway and side road. I have 2 more bars left before half way is met on the fuel gauge..which is around the time I fill up again. Weather has been on my side for much of this tank so far. I'm sure significant drops may happen once rain hits while driving. Anyway...just keeping yas posted. (y)

    Hi CSuirp! Thanks for sharing!

I see you are getting pretty good results there! I will update the installation manual soon to reminde users to take the ECO off after installing the Red Bullet.

Are you getting 28.14km/l average next to the trip distance display or were those singular trip highs?

I would love to see you in millage brags!

Wow those tires really took a toll on FC. Nearly 10km/l!

hey there Max. Yeah...so far so good with the results since ECO was shut down. Following are 3 areas of display showing my mpg.
    • ECO screen showing my singular trips maxing out at 66.2mpg (so far).
    • ODO screen showing my mpg about the same (66.2 but I have to confirm that tonight when I get home..not 100% sure).
    • Summary screen when I shut the car off will often show even higher mpg than my ECO showed. Example...66.2mpg on the ECO screen will most likely show around 68-70mpg on the Summary screen when I shut down the car.
hope that answers your question. I'll confirm that ODO screen mpg when I get in tonight.

My readings for the commute home...19.7 miles of 95% highway, 55-60mph
    • ECO screen: 65.3mpg
    • ODO screen: 61.5mpg
    • Summary screen: 62.4mpg
Looks like my Summary screen is inconsistent when it comes to showing higher mileage than my ECO screen for single trip runs. Going to work is all side roads and the Summary screen shows higher mpg than the ECO screen most of the time. When coming home, all highway, which is probably the reason for a lower Summary mpg screen vs ECO mpg screen. Thoughts?

Wow CSuirp! You hit the big 70 without telling us! Late congratulations to you!
With the trip summery showing you a higher number mostly everytime when you turn off then your ODO and ECO is totally normal.
This usually means your ODO and ECO will continue to slowly climb on the basis you keep on doing what you do on a regular basis.

I'm still looking into the situation of ECO being less efficient with the Red Bullet. From what I read so far, it seems like the ECO goes against the Red Bullet fundamental design.
Switching On ECO mode is to reduce output in both on board accessory and retard the engine performance (less throttle response, less fuel injected, and retard the valves and timing to suit)to reduce energy consumption.

The main design of the Red Bullet is to utilise full potential of Toyota's VVTI, using the full spectrum of VVTI on the basis of normal fuel and air mixture coupled with acces to full gain of the valve modulation.

ECO mode tries to save gas and be economical by reducing power and performance output. We know that the energy transfer curve is not linear. So ECO tries to keep you at the lower range where not so much energy loss is generated in comparison with upper power band.

The Red Bullet is there to increase the efficiency by straightening that curve on the entire power band.

By limiting the engine output with the ECO mode, it does not allow the Red Bullet to utilise its full potential which is the entire range of the power band. Hence you might not be getting the efficiency benefits with ECO on. Not saying that you wouldn't at all, like you said it was better then before, but not right up in the 68 until you turned it off I guess.

Thanks Max for explaining the ECO and it's function more! Appreciated it.

Wait..you lost me about hitting the big 70mpg. Did I hit it?:ROFLMAO:. From what I can tell i'm maxing out at 66.2mpg. Please tell me you're seeing something i'm not. hahaa.

Today's side-road commute to work of 16.5 miles brought me down to a max of 65mpg on the ECO screen and the Summary showed just 58mpg :(. Weather was good, windows up, nothing really different than the day before. So weird. The car seems so capricious. I'm at the point of considering to bring a dozen roses to the car and rehearsing some cheesy poem before getting in and starting it up each day, with hopes it will reward me with consistent 65+mpg. o_O If anyone tried this, please tell me if it worked for you...and a cheap floral store.

On post #230 you said you were getting 68-70mpg on your trip summery! That's good info my books buddy!

For the overall average to go above 28km/l is very difficult but it all depends on your driving condition.

For example in the begining of my 901km challenge, I had a lot of errands to run in a single day, they were during the day so traffic was not crazy such as rush hour but it was steady enough for me to get good numbers, trips were mostly 70+mpg, with good distance and I only had to do one warm up cycle for the whole day and one climb to get home at the end of the day. I was able to sustain 28 overall average for a few weeks running those errands.

Now it went down to 27.1- 27.2 and considering the ground covered, it is a very significant drop.
And I know what is causing it. I don't drive much of the day no more, I drive to lab and stay there for the good part of the day. So there is now one extra warm up cycle in the mix at least. My lab has underground parking, very steep climb to get out so that takes a lot of mpg just to get out also.

And going home i have a long stretch to climb also everyday. These factors are taking a toll on my mpg for sure. If I could eliminate this then my overal FC will be at least 28.4km/lfrom my estimate. Which is pretty significant, especially doing this 901km/tank.
I have 10km to go. Here are the stats so far:
    My trip today
    20190524_103033.jpg

My range covered, FC and glide ratio! That range has been 0km for the good part of this week. I try not to look at it.
    20190524_103017.jpg
I hope I'll have enough gas distribution to get out of the underground parking. I think the gradient is pretty steep, more then 15% in some parts for just around 100m long.
I should be down to my last liter or a smidge.

wow...doing so good Max! 31.5km! sweet. Do you have fuel with you in case u tap out mid way home later?
Oh...i'm sorry...the post on #230 where i mentioned 70mpg...that was just an example. I shouldn't have used that number, caused confusion. Sorry bout that. Yeah...i didn't hit the 70mpg yet. Maybe someday soon.

Amazing that a hill coming out of your parking garage cuts down on the mpg quickly. I get the same thing whenever hitting a hill or a steep incline, even if just for a little bit. I try to prepare for it ahead of time by giving more gas so i have momentum with fuel getting up it. I'm learning tricks every day with this thing. The car seriously makes us rethink about every variable around us that can have an impact on the mpg...
For instance...the other day i posted that I was getting a drop in mpg traveling to work in the same fashion i did the day before that, which was a higher mpg. I couldn't figure it out. But then it hit me. Yesterday was a humid day! Turns out that humidity negatively effects our Prius'. I wasn't aware of it. I did a little research and there's other threads in PriusChat that talk about humidity and the effects on mpg. Humidity is water in the air and they said the water displaces the oxygen, taking over more space that the oxygen once filled. When the air comes into the car...the car isn't getting as much oxygen as it should, therefore running richer than normal...thus eating up more fuel. So, water tends to be another enemy for our cars...be it in humidity or just rainy weather we drive in (the resistance the rain produces against the tires). Now...if there was a oxygen product on the market that can be installed in the air intake which monitors humidity levels and when the levels are elevated, it cuts off outside air intake and sucks in just the oxygen from the attached product. lol. Of course nothing like this exists that i know of...perhaps it does but i'm so tired right now i feel i'm talking out of my butt. Anyway...i hate humidity before this car...i hate it even more now. lol. Share ur thoughts on the humidity issue and even the product idea. lol

    Hi CSuirp,
I have concluded a 900-km challenge. As soon as I gassed up I switched the vehicle into eco mode. I have to be honest about the mode... I am not impressed. But it might be too early to tell, my fuel economy is stuck around 23 km per liter. I'll drive a few more hundred km to see if it improves. But at this point I think we were onto something when we switch you from eco mode to regular mode.

It has been a very long day and at the end was a very stressful one, after lab towards the gas station I was really stressed that we were going to run out of gas. After finding we only had about half a liter, it really had the hair standing on the back of my neck. We all looking into why the results differ from the meter and the computer, something doesn't add up. We will get to the bottom of it.

Rest assured we made it to 900km per tank with the help of the Red Bullet, and we did not sacrifice any power and pep while doing it. Maybe if my seat were white they would be stained brown now.

I'll update on the ECO mode as I go.
Thank you CSuirp for thinking about me! I was close to getting 1 liter and added to the total amount. But glad I grew a pair and stuck with the program!

Fantastic Max!! No prob...glad you didn't bomb out on the side of the road with an empty glass of gas. Great job sticking to it the full 900km challenge. Yeah, I can feel the anxiety you must of had when you were down to that last 1/2 liter! 560 miles per tank is a sweet deal! I'm in agreement, nothing impressive about the ECO mode while the Bullet is in. I'm pretty convinced you're not going to get the 560 miles with the ECO engaged now...maybe somewhere around 425-450 miles per tank. Glad you're doing the ECO test though with the Bullet, it's a valuable test for all of us to see. LOL on the brown seat comment. :ROFLMAO:

As an update on my mpg...it went down for whatever strange reason...I'm down from top mpg of 66.2 to 64.8. Low humidity today, so I ruled that out. Haven't a clue as to why the loss in 2 points. Same driving as I've been doing when it peaked. Filling up tank later tonight or tomorrow..so i'll fill those #'s in on Fuelly soon after to see what the calculations show.

    Hi CSuirp!

I think you will stabilise somewhere around that area. The Red Bullet improves the overall performance in regards to fuel economy and power output combined.
You will get those 70+ soon. Just work on the throttle and on a trip out of the blue you will be greeted with a 70+ trip summery! I can taste it!

Since i topped up my tank with a more or less certainty that it has at least 35.46l, I am going to try and do the Eco review, I want to give it a chance too so will drive until I see a significance. Not to hit 900km, but just to see where it goes. Mostly focusing on the experience and the drive of the adjusted performance.
More importantly I would like to see if both of our vehicles will have the same result in eco mode. I understand this will not qualify as a scientific proposal but it would be interesting to see if we have some overlapping results. Whatever happens we can go from there. I am a little bit reluctant to put in the OEM solenoid after the Eco run. I don't think I have enough bleach for my seat.

Drive safe everybody and I'll keep you guys posted. Please don't hesitate to check out the links on the challenge page!

    Hi CSuirp !

The challenge for the 900km on ECO will be up by Monday if ever. Its not posted yet.
Still driving around with it on, will see if its remotely possible.
