Advice on selling price for a 2005

See what the local dealers are asking for similar cars in your area. With that new battery you should get around their asking price.

 

I would ask $7000. The new battery alone makes it a decent deal at $6500.

 

There is a "for sale" section in the forum.
The easiest thing for you would be to go to kbb.com and see what it says the value is for your car.
I did a quick search for cars in your price range and they seem to be running in the 3500-5500 range with yours being in the upper end of that range (depending on cosmetics.)

Reminds me of a similar thread in May.

I'd happily pay $1000 more than a similar '05 with an original HV battery; with haggling I could go up to $1500 more.

But you need to find an educated consumer. If you came to me in 2017 when I bought my '06 gen2 and didn't appreciate the incidence of HV failure, I would be hard pressed to shell out the extra cash.

 

In a perfect world you'd get $5500.

So perfect world $5995 obo and you get $5500 or $5000.

But, realistically I think you are looking at selling it for maybe $4000-$4500 about 3-4 weeks after posting ad. Assuming you don't put that the roof was smashed from a storm and replaced in your ad. If you're going to mention that then might as well drop price to 3995 obo.

 

Well as a general rule the dealers always tend to pay less anyway and when they get used Prius a lot of them will replace the Battery Pack and charge accordingly. !9 years and 150000 miles as a general rule is what they are good for more or some less but that's the ball park. Since yours has already had the battery pack replaced ... they make a killing!

I think you do better selling it private party and you should highlight the battery pack replacement. That's what I would look for in a used older Prius.

 

Can I ask how much you paid for the new battery last month? With labor? Our dealer is asking for about $3000 total for our 2005 and we haven't decided what to do yet. We paid $4000 for ours last June and definitely wish we had gotten one with a new battery and known how close it was to failing!

 

When you go to selling it you definitely need to tell from the rooftops that it has a NEW HYBRID BATTERY FROM TOYOTA.

This is what differentiates your Prius from all the other ones out there.

Other cars will say they have new batteries, but often when you start asking questions it turns out to be a used battery of some form (rebuilt, refurbished, etc).

I would say lasts 8-10years easily, IF the car is driven regularly. Prius that aren't driven regularly, the HV battery does not seem to last long.

Don't forget NEW OEM HV Battery, as understood by the vast majority of people, is "100% unused, made from virgin components."
Rebuilt/Reconditioned/Remanufactured try to minimize the fact that it is still a USED product.
Kinda like CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) cars, which means USED (w/ a huge mark-up by the dealer).

Cheapest NEW OEM HV Battery I have heard so far is $1600!

If you have some DIY skills, you could attempt replacement yourself.
You should price shop dealers to see if they will lower their price on HV Battery and labor?
AAA, AmEx, and Costco for dealer discount coupons too.

The only upside w/ a dealer installed HV Battery is 3year part warranty; but the cost of labor is too high for essentially an additional two year warranty on a part that lasts a long time (8-10+years for many people).
