    [Someone] made me buy a Prius, how do I wreck the gas mileage/ride/handling?

    What I always wonder is who the [someone] is that has such control over your life that you don't buy the car you want, rather than ruin a car?

    A guy in Australia installed both a supercharger and a turbocharger (not at the same time) on his Prius, it stayed charged more often.

    Ur clearly not a car guy. U must be one of the members I heard about. One who supports all stock and doesn't understand why even mod a prius or any car.


    Believe or not plenty of chose this car and not "forced" into it

    I have modified my cars when no car sold in the US was better at what i needed. (I had more gizmos on my Gen 2 than on my v, as the v was already basically the car I wanted) I just do not start with a pickup and try to make it a Lambo. Attempting to make a Prius into a Civic Si or a MazdaSpeed 3 is just a waste of money.

    "All stock" would indicate the Prius you bought matched your needs (wants) perfectly, that would be rare. I doubt any owner does not tweak their car in some way.

    The main 'objection' I have to mods, is folks who try to mimic Otto Cycle improvements without thinking about how an Atkinson Cycle engine works. If the exhaust comes out of the engine at atmospheric pressure, there is no point to a larger exhaust. If the intake is pushed back into the intake manifold, reducing the volume of the intake system can modify the air/fuel ratio. (not for the better) Both can make more noise, but not more power.

    None of the engines I saw posted would mate with the transaxle in the Prius so you will really need to swap the entire drivetrain, not just the engine. (sensible swaps would be the 2.5l (and transaxle) from the Camry (Crown) or the 3.5l Highlander drivetrain Toyota GR engine - Wikipedia 308 HP Prius, but you will have fitment issues!)

    I do not do mods to make it louder or to chrome plate parts. My mods are for increased performance, which in the case of the Prius, would be better MPG. (My RD400D had ground clearance mods, I wanted to corner faster, I swapped in a 5 speed on my GLC, as it would not pull 4th on hills with the 4 speed, my Forester had a skidplate, as I my 50 mile commute had 7 miles of unpaved road. But notice that the RD400 already turned well, the GLC was already economical and the Forester was already a lifted AWD. I was not trying to make them what they were not.)

    It is possible I am not a 'car guy', it would be a surprise to me, but I could be wrong. I certainly am more interested in function than style., so if 'dress up' is your thing, I am not a 'car guy'. And I do not try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

    If these ever pan out, this might be something I look at doing for my track Prius!

    I also called the Fox marketing guy who talked me through the supercharger mod when it went for sale. He basically sounded completely full of shit. Said the supercharger bolted straight on, to some pully on the side of the engine and had absolutely zero issues. He said they had no issues with the ECU and that the car was crazy fast, but the car itself was crushed by Toyota after it was done using it as a show car, and only the supercharger remains. He did not sound like he was the person who did the modifications, and it turned me off from buying the supercharger entirely.

    So the camry hybrid engine is a 2.5L vs prius and corolla hybrid which have 1.8L. Does the Camry share the same electric motor thickness and same ECU for how much amps and volts are allowed in and out to the electric motor? If the ECU is different and battery count is different, I imagine simply swapping ECU from camry to prius will boost your overall acceleration, but at the cost of losing mpg having to recharge faster than usual and heating the electrical motor.

    I dont see why they would put a 2.5L engine and keep the same generator-motor, as im sure a 2.5 L can generate electricity at a faster pace than a 1.8 L, so most of the energy will be wasted if the generator-motor is same size as priuses. Rav4 hybrid at least has a bigger generator and slight tweak to the low end torque gear for more teeth, it is capable of producing more torque and power, as well as acceleration and speed due to this. But rav4 hybrid is also a 2.5L, and now that I think about it, the camry might be a rav4 underneath as they both get similar hp and torque. Anyone can confirm this?

    Would be a good idea to switch with prius if you ever get your hands on junked ones

    So according to this, camry is exactly identical to the rav4, but gets slighty better gas mileage due to weight and aerodynamics, though its still bad gas mileage compared to prius. Gen 4 prius actually has the weakest eCVT of all the hybrids, but it compensates with having a very large torque multiplier gear. This allows it to get the most miles per gallon of all.

    you know, what I've uncovered has taken more time to digest and move forward. Originally wasnt going to swap the inverter from the Prius Prime, just the battery. But now with the whole 2.4 turbo hybrid motor coming out, and the new eaxles.... to top if off, I didnt get my 3d scanner until Father's day this year and that was the key... if anyone wants a lighted OEM flywheel, I have access to them all day... um. That's all for now. I am so close to just not doing this motor and going for the 2.4l turbo from the crown, just can't find one yet...

    As I progressed I learned more about the differences between the hybrid motors and the different mg1/mg2 aka vt's out there... I was slightly wrong in my initial assessment of how this was planned in my head, needed to get down and dirty with it to really see the light. At first, it was 2.0L as a simple swap for those with head gasket issues... having ecu pick up the new stuff, just that... if I am selfish and just make my Frankenstein, it's not something for the faint of heart with the AWD and such... at least I can read/write the ecu now so that's the biggest hurdle out of the way with all of this. I thought about putting 1.8l back in and tuning that ecu with the parms from the japan spec phv I have and just doing prime battery just... lots of balls in the air right now with all of this

    Is it multi-colored LED lighting?
    Do they do anything measurable, other than look fantastic?;)

    Do you understand the toyota eCVT concept?
    A more powerful engine will require more power to the small MG that controls the engine-to-wheel ratio and it starts and keeps the engine stopped while in EV mode.
    Do you think it will handle an unexpected amount of power from the engine and all will be well?

    If you just want "More Power" and don't care about MPG, why not go with a 6 spd manual transaxle with this swap?
    You could scrap the battery pack, save weight and have more interior space!!

    In fact, the eCVT system ALWAYS requires electric power to maintain that 'gear ratio' while driving down the road.
    And that is why the Prius is no longer the Fuel Economy champ. That other hybrid has a simpler, more efficient transaxle system.

    The thing is... all of your words are only assumptions... since no one has done what I'm about to complete... we won't know until we know...

    The thing is, I have a plugin, it's a completely different animal than the non-plugin. These ECUs are sooo smart.... just like you, were able to know I was talking about a multi-colored LED lighting kit! :)

    I actually might end up merging the two motors... the goal for me was to come up with a way for a Prius owner who has head gasket issues to replace enough to have performance gains, no oil issues, and the same or better mpg...

    All joking aside,,
    What are saying about Prius 'head gasket issues'?
    Changing to a different engine in the Prius? (Side Note: Hybrids have engines and motors. Different things.)
    (My Gen3 has a gas engine and 2 Motor/Generators.
    My Bolt has one big azz 149kW Motor/Generator.)


    My Gen 3 is at 124k miles and I suspect a 'head gasket issue' in in my future,,,
    no matter how many times I clean the EGR system, change the engine coolant and do 5k mi. oil changes,,,,
    and whatever other forum recommended cures there may be...

    Maybe the Gen3 has a chronic 'head gasket issue' in the design.(n)

    Maybe the Felpro head gasket is a long term cure, only time will tell.
    I have a courier friend that has a fleet of Gen2 and 3 Prii. One of the Gen3's recently got the Flepro head gasket.
    He will be the first to rack up the miles and find out! Only time will tell.(y)
