    Considering a GAS 2019 Highlander LE AWD starts at US$35,190, your criteria is unlikely to happen by 2025 or 2030.

    A 2019 HiHy starts st $37,320. I expect the 2020 HiHy to start at a lower price only because they swapped out the V6 for a 4 cylinder (basically the same system in the 2018 Camry Hybrid and 2019 RAV4 Hybrid). It’s an SUV, it’ll always be priced higher because it’s popular and people are willing to pay the price over a comparable sedan, so why wouldn’t manufacturers charge a premium to make a tidy profit?

    Plus, 5 minute, in flight fast charging.

    Sedan and hatchback BEVs with less than 300 miles range are in the mid $30k range. These are mostly compacts. Prices should come down, and a car based SUV doesn't cost much more to make. Which doesn't get reflected in prices now.

    sudden surge? Can that jibe with "know your audience"? Surge .... in manufacturing - isn't one either the cause of a product surge? .... or at least riding the surge? or .... missed the surge.

    If you want to talk about fossil fool subsidies, the greatest most tragic part of that is all the criminals who have spent the last century polluting our very thin layer of atmosphere based on the 100% total lie that electric cars have never been technically feasible until very recently. Truth is, the technology has been proven for more than a century. Want proof? Look no further than this one picture below.

    As in there's a reason why most all the mass transit systems in the country were bought up and shuttered in the 1950's, as well as a reason electric car designs have been prevented from reaching the market as far back as early 1900's and it was a crime that still has gone unpunished.

    I don't think they have missed the surge. We are still at the beginning. World wide plug-in sales are at just 2 million in 2018, less than 3% of major markets. I think we will surge to 10 million/year by 2030 - 5x last years figure.

    I think toyota realized that the self charging electric car (sales of full hybrids were down in 2018) and fuel cell vehicles sold in the low thousands (about 12000 fcv cars, suvs, trucks, and busses exist world wide in all years combined) while plug-ins grew 64%.

    The first 2 mentioned toyota bevs are not likely to sell in any quantities, but 5 years from now -2024, I don't see why they would not be selling more plug-ins than hybrids. It seems to take about 5 years to design a car and get it into mass production, and 3 years to build a battery factory. I'm hoping that at least 2 of the 10 promised toyota bevs arrive by the end of 2024 and sell in high volume world wide.

    As to the demoing of solid state battery next summer for the olympics, that would be a good thing too. I just don't think they can get costs down and reliability up to a level in the next 5 years to have them in a mass market car. They definitely could have them in a protype chinese bev or in the prime next year though.

    Although with that flying car also comes the cybernetics involved with the air traffic control systems. etc..

    The rich "enough" gain speed and convenience, with the rest of us lowly terra dwellers, masses, get to pay to the government the infer structure costs of implementation and maintenance.

    But it's one way to get above the failure of the Green movement in the US, etc. etc. etc. ...

    16mb video file? that only shows a tail light gif? What the heck. Following the other "electrics" on the same page though? They're touting their "electric" box truck, only it's not electric, it's brown coal reformed hydrogen fuel that runs it. Sure, call it electric, the same way a gasoline piston engine is a "compression motor", if you want to buy into that.
    I truly hope this isn't more of Lexus/Toyota shenanigans like the phony add they ran some years ago;
    Lexus-talking-trash-on-EVs-1.png
    It insults the advertiser's audience intelligence when they call a chicken a horse, and expect viewers to mentally rationalize, "oh I guess they're the same - because they both ARE alive".
    Even giving Lexus the benefit of the doubt, there's no indication these aren't just China builds & maybe if there's Surplus - will think about the United States, kind of like the way mitsu plug-in Outlander got introduced here ... many many years later.
    But heck yea - an RX ev? That would be killer sweet. They just better start now on infrastructure .... "if" ..... and that's a mighty speculative if.

    If we haven't learned yet, we probably never will.
    The general public is fed a ton of ads every day. What sparks sales is the only thing advertising is interested in and will go to any lengths they can get away with to boast sales numbers for their clients.
    Toyota sells a ton of gas guzzlers too, especially in the US market.
    What's that tell ya bout "intelligence". We buy what they're selling, and it doesn't really matter what that is that they're selling.

    I am almost positive I have recently read somewhere that a hybrid (not sure if PHEV or "self-charging") version of the Tacoma was being "readied", and/or there have been spy shots of RAV4 with what looked like a charging port?

    You can speculate freely, but BEV is not FCEV/PHEV/HV.
    Electrification comes to this video/marketing just to introduce one more technology to the portfilio, fortunately a Battery Electric.
    And showing it in Tokyo means it is for domestic & worldwide markets, not Shanghai/Beijing only.

    It is still a concept though...

    I am among those who divide all the mainstream methods of electrified propulsion into 3 categories: (1) Regular hybrids, (2) Plug-ins (which includes PHEVs, EREVs and pure BEVs), and (3) FCEV's. When someone comes up with a FCEV that does have a plug, then we'll have to scratch our heads a little harder.

    Other news sites have speculated, based on this one picture, it’s probably going to be based on the LF-SA concept shown back in 2015. Weird though, Lexus has related articles that are based on the LF-1 Limitless. I guess we’ll find out in 2 weeks.

    According to the Toyota Corolla hybrid advertising that they do, their electric is self charging, because if you have a plug, "you'll be left behind";
    ....
    Yet Toyota acknowledges that the primary vehicle being traded in for a model 3 is their Prius
    Here Are the Cars Tesla Model 3 Buyers Trade in Most Often
    It would seem the questionable advertising isn't paying off too well.

    perhaps you were thinking Tundra? I believe the Tundra is coming in hybrid form with a modified version of the multi-stage hybrid system on the LS/LC.
