Is there a way to use the portable tire inflation compressor supplied with the tire repair kit for simple tire inflation? It's appears to be designed to have the repair fluid container snapped on before it operates. This would require an ordinary tire inflation hose that will snap into the compressor in the same way.

Could using an empty slime bottle allow it to work as a plain air compressor?

Personally, I don't think I'd trust the unit to survive normal air compressor duty.

edit: reports are that replacement slime isn't cheap, so getting an empty one may not be easy. Just buying a reputable air compressor might be cheaper.

Yup. My portable compressor, sadly, doesn't fit in the same place as the OEM one, but it drops perfectly into the rear seat middle arm rest storage. That and a plug kit make a way better solution and the one that comes with the car. I just used it last week on a friend's Tacoma because it was easier that fishing the spare out from under it.

I'm pretty sure someone here posted about putting in a bypass hose, to allow the stock pump to work without the slime?

FWIW, I find a simple floor-style hand-operated bicycle pump works fine.

Why portable compressors. Are you experiencing leaks? I air mine at home with a regular compressor and they stay full for months.

Not always home. Not always near a service gas station (if they have air anymore). Nice to have in a pinch. Not for regular use.

Up here Chevron is (as far as I know) the lone hold-out, still providing free air. However... (copywrite acknowledgement to that sub guy...): the last few years, the few times I've resorted to adding air at Chevron, the pumps often come to standstill around the mid-thirties. And sometimes it's so bad it seems like I'm airing up their compressor's tank, lol.

We have the same here. Only one that has free air is Wawa. Where I work (Exxon) they charge $1.00 for 3 minutes of air  and the compressor is weak also. I use a small AC compressor at home.

As I understand it, in California, all gas stations must provide free air to paying customers.

Only if you buy fuel there. Buy a soda or hot dog, no free air.

Plus, you can be certain that their compressor is well maintained, and that you are only receiving the cleanest, oil free, moisture free air available...

Or any other BEV. You can pay for the air if you are not buying fuel.

No compressors at EV charging stations? Seems like something you could check and fill during your 30 minute wait.

Got one at home for adjusting the tires. I got a portable one and plug kit in the car, because it is easier for me to make a repair than swap in the spare.

The last time I tried Wawa's air, the sealing washer in the nozzle was too worn, and air went into the tire. Probably lost air.
