I have a 2005 prius, replaced both batteries over the past few years, but now the combination meter is broken. Grr. Sure don't want to pay $1000.00 to have this done. Anyone get it done cheaper or DIY? I have no skill to DIM but thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Can you pull it yourself? From what I hear, it's just a lot of relatively simple labor, so if you've got the time, the part itself is cheap from, say, TexasHybridBatteries.

Thanks you all! Arts was $800.00 and Luscious approx $750.00.
Still way cheaper then the well over $1000.00 in both our local places
in Marin. I really appreciate your suggestions thanks again!

it's not a hybrid part, so might be worth asking around at local shops

About 1800 miles Marin to Dallas. Perhaps a summer road trip for a vacation?

Marin explains the high price. You will have to slum it out of Marin to find cheaper prices. Nice city and area though.

Maybe get the HV battery replace by Matt at that time too? Maybe a multi service discount?

If the HV batt is original, 14years is a very nice long run.

Give this shop a call. They've installed meters for a couple of our customers in that area and the feedback was excellent.

    Out West Garage Auto Repair
    321 2nd St, Petaluma, CA 94952
    (707) 769-0162

Like some others have mentioned already the combo meter replacement is not a hybrid specific repair so any repair shop should be able to do the install. It's just good to find a shop who has already done a few before. Most shops charge for about 2 hours of labor on this job which should be $200-$300.

Are you sure it's dead??? I am certainly not an expert on these cars but ... in my experience the MDF, Luv's to play Opossum, if you have fat fingers and just start poking buttons! You can turn it off by accident. The first time it happened we had just got the car and I was like WTH??

At that time, the "Display Play" and that would work but when you hit an option?? It would display that info, but then it would go off again??

OK that is interesting?? Turning it off "intentionally" or by "accident" is fairly simple. But turning it back on is kinda nice person backwards??

At any rate after a year or so just recently it happened again! OK this time my wife had taken the car to town. I scanned the cluster and saw the odometer was on B and not A where I always keep it?? Ok then "she" did this ... again.

So I suspected she'd turn it off, again .... But this time I was a bit more methodical in my approach to get it back .. kinda.

The first thing I did note was that it would display "climate info" when you press that button and then it would go "off again??" And display info would again show that screen, then it would go blank again??

I did something or another (there is no switch for display on) that I saw?? But it was not dead and thru some combo of buttons and or screen switches, I saw the little wheels again and it was back on! :)

This is a long way of saying ... that if the "Display" button works and the "Climate" button works?? It may have been turned off by accident ... was someone else driving the car before this happened???

He’s talking about the combination meter (speedo, gas gage). Not the MFD.

I called all over the Bay Area and the best price AND quickest service was Hybrid Haven in Petaluma. Amazing find for people who are either done with dealership or just looking elsewhere. Ed undercut the price by over $350 AND did the job in 1.5 hours vs the 4 hours others told me. 707-766-9700 is their number, right off the freeway on Lakeville off of 116.
