The swappable battery system Honda is developing for motorcycles and ATVs could easily be expanded to mowers and lawn tractors. The concept already includes a portable charger/power station, so remotely powering corded tools is covered, though a backpack version might be useful. The batteries are under 20 pounds apiece, and are 1 kWh.

We run an EGO 56v self propelled mower and it's been pretty good for us. A lot quieter than a gas mower, and it should start paying for itself in a few months since we stopped paying our landscapers and I lose some weight (hopefully). The 7.5Ah battery charges in an hour, so it doesn't require a ton of forethought/planning (we keep the battery at about 20-50% in between uses).

The bagging and side discharge capability isn't really so hot, but it's an excellent mulched, so it's not a huge issue.

That sounds a whole lot like that picture of the Tesla charge station connected to a big diesel generator that I've seen on a few car forums.

Yep... and it feels weird to use it like that. But hey, I only need a chainsaw about 3 days a year, and I'm not going to mess with another gas engine for that little need. I already had the genny for storm/standby power.

Started using a generator and electric chainsaw combo back in the 80's. More than once that out produced others using 2 stroke saws on a day long job cutting winter fuel for our camp in the summer because those would have fueling/temp related issues. The biggest issues for the electric was the cord getting snagged and needing a "cord wrangler" as we made our way through the trees/undergrowth. Always seemed like when you're reaching to cut the most awkward limb, you'd run out of cord. Then someone would need to make their way back to the 100 lb gen and carry it back through the obstacle course to continue. When your tired and hot. FUN! Everything has its plus and minuses.

Never could justify a corded lawnmower after the issues of using other corded power tools: hedger, leaf blower, and string trimmer. If the work area is small, those are better and cheaper.
