    Hey guys -

I was running into issues with my traction battery dying, so I got in touch with the guy who rebuilt the pack 50K miles ago, and he mailed me some new cells to replace the two that were dying. I popped them in along with a fresh 12v battery, and everything went well for a few days... then the christmas tree came back.

I pulled the pack, checked all the voltages, and everything seemed good (7.5ish per cell). Put the pack back in, and the car made it about 5 feet in drive before shuddering and popping into neutral. As of now, the car will not go into drive. If you push down on the accelerator while in park, the engine will not spin over like it normally does.

I used my normal OBD scanner, and as expected, it won't pull any codes. All of the old links on bluetooth obd scanners that work on the Prius are either dead or removed.

Is my battery pack toast? Do I need to charge each cell individually? Do I need to send it to the crusher? It's a 2007 (or 2008?) with around 210K miles. Before the traction battery died, the car ran beautifully - I'd love to mend it so I can at least get another year or two out of it.

    With love - Clearance

    welcome!
you can't just replace cells. that was very odd for the guy to just mail you some

if the rest of the car is nice, why not invest $1,600. into a brand spanking new battery?

The rest of the car is hot garbage. Haha. Maybe worth $2000 at the most, when in working condition.

The mini VCI with pirate techstream is about 20 bucks on Amazon. You will need an older laptop or netbook to install techstream on though. But it will work for almost every Toyota from 1996 on.

if you want to do it on the cheap, get a hobby charger and balance all the cells before putting it back together.
you have to load test the modules. try the dr prius app
