Are you sure you're not missing a part where a display flashes "DANGER TO MANIFOLD", the passengers-side floor pan falls out into a shower of sparks, and a bald guy tells you you should have been double-clutching and that you now owe him a 10-second car?

Similar jokes were made in this other post about the NOS-enhanced Prius.

I think this is pretty much like what you've on hybrid highlanders, etc, with electric motors at the rear for more power.
But if one tries to incorporate an electric motor at the rear, are you going to have to get a separate ECU for it's functionality, or you would modd the HV ECU to accommodate that? Kinda like more work here.

(Am about to watch - Car Wizard examine a Corolla, but finishes teardown of Hoovie's NOSed engine. Given that the cylinder head and the crankshaft case weren't removed in the previous video, I hope we get a good look at what really went on!)

I wouldn't actually do it, but, I imagine something like a Leaf motor connected to a diff for the rear wheels. It would need another battery, a way to charge it, etc. Not really practical. But, maybe with a spare Prius NiMH, with improved cooling (so it can do higher 'bursts' of power), you could make drag-racing Prius.

Until there is full control over the computers, there isn't really much we can do. Even the 1.5 litre Yaris engine swap is rev limited by the HV ECU!

Gah, I knew I should have gone to that last SEMA.

Hadn't heard of it, but it sounds interesting. Wonder how it affects how the car handles around a track?

I like the idea of in wheel motors and am hoping some group or company can make that reality come prime time. The current reality being Orbis is not taking any request of this calendar year. When 48 volt mild hybrids become reality and prime time am thinkin in wheel motor could be more likely be in marketplace and my positive thinking of occurence

the problem with in wheel motors is they would be a lot of unsprung weight. better to mount them to the frame and use cv axles.

I'd just like to be able to pick up a Type R for MSRP (dealer markups everywhere!).
