Oh boy is that a factory G3 External Hybrid battery charger only available at the dealer?

You may have hit gold there dude. The fact that its all in Japanese is a good sign. Only available at the dealer. Very expensive. And never offered for sale to the public.

But the fact that that it was in the trunk probably means the hybrid battery in the car was having issues and they used that charger to fluff it up for resale.

Tell us about the car what year how many miles on the car and what kind of mileage are you getting and btw congratulations.

This thread will soon become very busy lol.....

Do this...start another thread in the G3 section and label the thread: IS THIS A DEALER HYBRID BATTERY CHARGER?

That thread will go crazy lol.

ok, I will open a thread in G3 section.

My car is a 2006 red Prius executive.
I bought it in 2017 with 220 000 km and now it has 280 000 km.
I have no problems until recent (last month) when the HV battery star having problems.
Now (after I change a block of cells) the car runs very good....but who knows?

Ok I thought since you posted in your signature you own a 2000 prius I assumed you found it in that car. So whats the 2000 Prius you have listed in your signature? In the future please be more clear what car it is and where you live. You are asking for help.

I have never actually seen the the Japanese Dealer charger for the G2 so that's what you have so don't bother posting on the G3 thread you have a factory G2 hybrid battery charger. A legendary charger. That would make more sense a G2 is having battery issues. You could have used this charger to fully charge and balance the entire battery pack when you worked on it.

Back in the day a G2 engine would die and people would try to limp home on the hybrid battery only and drain the battery so deep the car would not start. Had to get this charger imported from japan to the dealer to fix that. $$$$$. Los of posts on that years ago.

There is a new aftermarket hybrid charger lots of us use called Prolong. Found at hybridautomotive.com. Works very well can extend the life of a bad battery. Mine started going bad almost 2 years ago and using the prolong it has gotten me another 2 years.

How I conect this charger to my battery?
I have to remove the battery from the car?
The charger input is 220-230 V?
Where I can find a tutorial how to use this "legendary charge" ?
    Thanks!

There is nothing on that charger that would plug into any normal connectors on a Gen 2 HV battery. Assuming this is a HV battery charger, at a minimum, there would be an adapter harness required. I also noticed it has something marked as (12v)? And nothing showing it as Toyota. No part number, no nothing...

Look through the link below. I believe this is one of the Toyota HV charger. Perhaps a newer model, but it looks a lot more involved than what's pictured in this thread. Also looks like Toyota charges the HV battery via the inverter connections.

Never seen one never even seen a picture of one much less any info or schematics. Its proprietary.

I doubt its 220 volt ac input its usually 120 volts in. Japan uses 100 volts but not a big deal with electronics usually. Not alot of current produced as the charging current is highly regulated. On the Prolong for instance its capped at 330 milliamps.

So one plug is ac in and the other plug is 200+ volts dc out to the battery. If i could get my hands on it and open it up it would be very easy to see whats what.

But be aware your missing the charging cable which bolts to the hybrid battery. You would have to install one to make it work. Prolong for instance comes with a cable you install in the battery. There is no charging port in the battery you have to hook it to the battery side of the relays.
Did they leave the charging cable installed on the battery too lol?

Part number is in japanese I bet. need someone who can read japanese. The lettering sure looks like Toyota to me. But i don't know as I have never seen the jap charger.

Give us the dimensions of this thing. Looks pretty big to me.

This thread is going to get busy. We love mysterys here. Especially the 12 volt lol....

I would be EXTREMELY hesitant to go connecting this to anything without finding out exactly what it is and what it's current operating condition is. High Voltage is no joke and that device could evaporate in half a second if things go bad. I wouldn't want to be within 20 feet of that thing when it's going live.

So you found this thing in your trunk 2 years ago and 60,000 km ago?
Just now asking what it is?
    Bit of a delayed query.

I'm almost sure it's a genuine HV charger from gen1 prius. Can't give a link due to PC restrictions, but I found almost identical unit (one digit of part number was different) on an archived auction in Poland.

Edit: please search Generation 1 Prius Discussion for phrase NHW10 charger in to NHW11.
