I'm looking at a 2015 with 117k that was originally sold in CA. Ran Carfax and the warranty is showing as expired. Called a dealer to check and waiting to hear back. Is there some reason the warranty isn't 10 yr/150k? First owner used it commercially as a fleet vehicle, not sure if that matters. Thanks for any feedback.

10yr 150K miles ONLY pertains to the Synergy drive stuff - inverter, mg1 & mg2, traction pack etc. Even the traction pack part is sort of misleading - as most capacity loss is determined by dealerships / Corporate to be 'normal' - unless the pack virtually & instantaneously dies. The good news is that such failures are infrequent.

Could be that it was registered out of California for a while. That might shorted the C.A.R.B. warranty.

Thanks to all for the replies. Good point about Carfax not knowing about the CARB warranty. I called a few dealers but haven’t heard back yet. The car has only been registered in CA, so hopefully it’s covered. By “traction pack” I’m guessing you mean the hybrid battery, and I’m now 2 for 2 with Gen 2 batteries going kaput within 10k of exceeding the 150k limit. Thanks also for the link, I’ll give it a read.

I believe the retail warranty does not apply to commercial sales.

I don't know what they are asking for the car just remember the minute you drive off the lot that car is worth about $8,200.

That car has had almost 30K miles put on the clock each year for the last four years.

I checked Autotrader by you and if the Prius you're looking at is the one they have listed for $14,999 walk away. A dealer, Santa Cruz Subaru has a 2015 Plug in with 45,300 miles for $14,920.
