I got home from lunch and was in the car idling when on the main hun screen a message displayed "Engine problem" the the car shut off. There was a faint smell of rubber for awhile. Since then the car will not turn on. There is some initial power to roll windows down but not much else. AAA could not jump the car. On top of that when attempting to start the car the dashboard display shows the gears but then they immediately go away with blinking empty boxes where the gear should be. There is no red triangle or check engine icons displayed. Please help I'm very worried and very broke

I read once that those symptoms, especially when flickering is a sign of a weak 12v battery... So check the 12v voltage first. If that's the problem, the cheapest fix would be to buy a trickle charger at harbor freight for $6 and see if you can get more life out of your 12v battery before replacing it eventually. It could also be something else though. How old is your 12v battery?

Your inverter cooling pump shorted out and blew the AM2 fuse. It’s a very common issue.

Replace the pump and the fuse and it’ll be back to normal.

I'm having a similar situation. Took car to shop to paint it. Ran fine going to shop. Dead when they went to pull it in shop. No dash lights, would not jump.Checked battery, good. Later found AM2 fuse had blown. I put in another and dash lit up, but it blew in 15 seconds. Unplugged inverter water pump and put in another fuse, dash came on and stayed on. However, car would not go to ready. Red triangle and other lights were on. After a few minutes, tried start button, and everything went out again. AM2 is not blown, but no power to dash. Any thoughts??

How many threads are you going to post your problem in? In this one I noticed you added some information not in the other 3-4 posts. It didn’t start for someone other than you and someone tried to jump start it. You should put that in the thread you started

Clearly your problem is the car doesn't like the color of paint you've choosen. If you choose a better color, it won't be an issue and the problem will be solved.

I had a very similar situation a week ago with my 2005. My car had been driving fine up to this point. Got home and pulled into the garage while I continued to listen to the radio (under 10 min w/nothing turned off). I go to power down and it wouldn't fully shut off. Same with the blank gear boxes, display and radio could be used but dash was mostly black. And the weird chemical smell best way to describe it - plastic, rubber? Not rotten egg smell though. Why?

I waited a few minutes to see if I could turn it fully back on and then drive around thinking the battery may have slightly drained. Wouldn't start and definitely wouldn't engage gears. Long story short after waiting and trying later I left it be, assuming the battery would be draining over night and called AAA. My mechanic still has it.....

Please let me know any thoughts! From what I'm reading it definitely sounds like the 12v but is that all? My mechanic says he can't get it started to plug it in for codes....

Is your mechanic a hybrid guy? I’m assuming he tried to jump start it and checked the AM2 fuse?
