20190630_145023.jpg I have a 2014 Prius C model 2. It has about hundred 180,000 miles on it. I am the second owner when I bought it in 2016 it had 13,000 miles on it. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. It just recently started getting very hot like over a hundred and ten degrees. I also just within the last week replaced the 12 volt battery for the first time. It has so many miles because I am a courier and use it for work and I've also done pizza delivery and food delivery (doordash) on the side. I am moving into a new place and after I dropped off my second load last night at about 10 p.m. and put some stuff away at about 11 I went to go take another load and when I got in the car and begin to drive off I immediately got the attached error. I can still drive the car and it seems like the battery is still charging up (the bars increase for the battery) but I can't see the lines going from the engine to the battery or the wheels to the battery or from the battery like you normally would during operation. Am I totally fucked is this my Hybrid battery giving out or could it be something simple like maybe a fuse? I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to car maintenance and stuff like that but I am definitely still a novice. If it is the battery it means that it's time to get a new job and not be a courier anymore so I'm hoping that's not the case. I sincerely appreciate any help anyone on here can give me.

I forgot to add that I have been reading Prius chat for about 2 years but just finally created a username because of this issue. You guys did help me with another issue that I had that a shop couldn't figure out.

You are talking about this thing correct?
I took it to AutoZone and the OBD reading said replace Hybrid battery. 20190630_173101.jpg

Yes, I had the same message with my Lexus last Christmas, stripped the fan assembly, cleaned the filter and reassembled it.
Since then it’s been fine, I’ve just got into the habit of cleaning it every 6 months, but that’s because I do a lot of mileage as well

I don't run the AC on high all the time but definitely when I first get back into the car the car in between deliveries I do but usually end up turning it down. And where I was living at I did park in the sun a lot because there was no covered parking.

Well damn I have a guy coming over to change out the Hybrid battery in an hour or two. But now I'm wondering if I should hold off and do that first but I need to get back to work ASAP.

That would be the last thing I would do, firstly I would clean the motor and filter, check and clear the codes and then see if the problem continues.

If it does then I would consider that the batter MAY need replacement, but even then I would have someone professionally diagnose it

Thanks for all the input. I was able to get the fan apart and it wasn't very dirty inside. Cleaned it some and the guy came over to run diagnostics. Cleared the codes and they came right back up. Exchanged the battery out and haven't had an issue since.

    ----------------------------------------

With the statement above I'm assuming you had the hybrid battery swapped out with something other than a new one from Toyota? I don't want to be the one to bear some bad news, but maybe you should have read threads around here regarding them first. You may get lucky and I hope you do, but generally people find themselves in the same boat a few months later - with yet another crapped out battery. If you wonder why, it's because those batteries are nothing more than a battery assembled from other failed battery packs.

Are they new or reconditioned? Cost?

I got the replacement from Toy under warranty but they told me the battery pack will only have 1 year warranty.
